This provision is good
Children settle well and form firm attachments with the childminder. She is caring and attentive towards their needs, and supports their emotional well-being. The childminder provides a wide range of resources, from which children independently choose. They learn about their likes and dislikes and gain an enthusiasm for knowledge. The childminder has strong partnerships with other settings children attend and their parents. She regularly shares children's achievements and any gaps in their learning to support children's ongoing development, in particular, those children who require additional help to catch up. All children make good progress from their starting points. Children enjoy many experiences in both the indoor and the outdoor environments. They learn about the world and other people around them in many different ways. The childminder updates her professional development regularly. She is knowledgeable

in child development and uses her expertise to provide a safe and stimulating environment in which children feel secure and have freedom to play and learn.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to stimulate and extend children's learning and development fully. The childminder does not build on children's understanding of good health. For example, she does not explain about their personal care needs fully or talk to them about the impact of the food that they eat has on their well-being.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide children with more challenge during their play and planned activities to extend their learning further give children clearer explanations to build on their understanding of good health and managing their personal hygiene.

Inspection activities
The inspector and the childminder discussed self-evaluation and the areas identified for improvement. The inspector and the childminder disused the evaluation of an activity and the impact this had on children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records and evidence of the childminder's suitability in caring for children. The inspector observed activities and held discussions with the childminder regarding children's progress in their learning and development. The inspector took account of the views and comments of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the importance and the responsibility of her role in caring for and protecting the children in her care. She is confident of the reporting procedures to follow if she is concerned for a child to keep them safe. The childminder evaluates and reflects on her practice and uses feedback from parent questionnaires to help identify areas for improvement to benefit children. The childminder values the parents and they comment that the childminder supports them to be very much a part of their child's achievements and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes children and accurately assesses their development. She captures progress through termly assessments, which help the childminder to plan appropriately for individual children. The childminder provides children with many opportunities to explore and experiment in their play and to be physically active. For example, she encourages children to balance and use their spatial awareness to negotiate their bodies and feet around a tractor tyre. Children are learning to share their thoughts and ideas and the childminder gives children plenty of time to ask and answer questions. She teaches children to respect and value others' opinions, which is helping them to learn vital life skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a caring and nurturing environment. Children learn to become independent. For example, the childminder enriches the wide range of resources and activities with visually labelled baskets and boxes, which helps children to make choices about with what they want to play. Children communicate well with each other and express their opinions and their feelings. The childminder skilfully uses her initiative to observe children at play and joins in to help children achieve what they set out to do. She helps children to behave well and gives age-appropriate support for unwanted behaviour. For example, the childminder uses a good tone of voice and bends down to children's level when speaking to the children about positive ways to behave.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and learn a good range of skills that prepares them for future learning. For example, children move happily between the settings they attend and quickly settle into nursery and school. They learn to behave well and understand boundaries that help to keep them safe. For example, children are learning about fire safety through regular evacuation drills. Children are keen and motivated learners who are eager to investigate and progress in their play and learning.
