This provision is good

 The quality of the childminder's interactions with children is consistently good. Children's behaviour is positive and they are interested and eager to join in with activities.  The childminder uses assessment well to help children make progress. Through training she has recently learnt to effectively monitor and track children's progress and how to adapt her provision to help children catch up where necessary.  Children receive continuity in their care and learning, supported by the childminder's positive relationships with parents and other professionals. This is particularly helpful for children who have special educational needs or disability.  The childminder makes well-considered changes to the setting. Following her last inspection she has attended training programmes that have had a positive impact on her practice. For example, the childminder has learnt about the different ways in which

children learn and has improved learning opportunities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder completes some tasks for children that they could do for themselves. This does not fully support their independence.  Children enjoy playing outside each day but the childminder does not always make the most of these opportunities to fully extend their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of all opportunities to support children to develop independence in completing manageable tasks  develop more opportunities for children who prefer to learn outside to explore and investigate to extend their all-round development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children.  The inspector looked at documentation, including the childminder's training certificates and children's learning journals.  The inspector spoke with children and took the written views of parents into consideration.  The inspector conducted a leadership and management discussion and a joint observation with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and safeguarding procedures to support children's safety and welfare. The childminder improves outcomes for children through effectively evaluating the quality of her provision. This is a significant improvement since the last inspection. For example, the childminder has reorganised her assessment procedures to ensure she is carefully planning to help children take steps in their learning and development. Overall, children develop skills that will help them as they move on to school. For example, they sit nicely at lunchtime, behave well, and engage confidently in conversations. The childminder has built positive links with other professionals and settings. This helps children to benefit from a shared understanding of their learning and care requirements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children develop their skills and understanding as they explore and investigate. For example, children concentrate well as they fill and empty pots with rice. The childminder skilfully extends their mathematical vocabulary, for example, by introducing words such as 'full' and 'empty'. Children are interested and excited by the activities on offer. For example, they mix paint with shaving foam and are mesmerised as the materials begin to change colour. The childminder uses her experience well to support children's learning. For example, as children play with animals, the childminder introduces animal songs and stories to help them improve their language and early reading skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children play with growing levels of confidence. They are happy and their behaviour is consistently helpful. For example, children help to find the things they need at nappy changing time. They are cooperative and understand what is expected of them. Children follow their own ideas and make links in their understanding. For example, they tell stories with small characters and a rocket, and talk about visiting the moon. The childminder has built positive relationships with children and is fully aware of their care needs. She helps children to stay healthy and happy, for example, through regular outdoor play and exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are kind, helpful and affectionate. They play in a respectful way with each other. They understand what is expected of them and they know how to get on well together. All children develop a love of learning and many positive skills in readiness for school.
