Children develop close relationships with the childminder who is kind and caring. She creates many opportunities for meaningful interactions that help to reinforce children's sense of belonging. Children clearly enjoy their time with the childminder. Children move freely between the indoor and outdoor environments as they make their own choices about what they wish to play with. Toys are accessible and well organised, which enables them to engage in purposeful play. The childminder effectively supports children's language skills. For example, she talks to children about what they are doing and asks questions to encourage them to share their thoughts. Children learn to concentrate, develop their ideas further and make good progress. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to continually improve her service. She seeks out additional training and engages with professional networks to improve her

The inspector discussed children's learning with the childminder following observations of activities. The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and written observations of children's learning. The inspector looked at evidence of self-evaluation and took into account the written views of parents. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and the suitability of adults living on the premises.
p.2

The childminder has a clear understanding of how to protect children. She is aware of the signs that indicate children may be at risk of harm and is familiar with the local safeguarding procedures. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reflects on her practice and identifies area for development to improve outcomes for children, involving parents and children in this process. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder regularly shares information about their children's progress. The childminder values professional development opportunities. Following a training course called 'reluctant talkers', the childminder used what she had learnt to encourage and support language development, particularly with younger children. The childminder has effective links with the local nursery school to enable her to build on what children know and can do. The childminder monitors children's progress well to identify any emerging gaps.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder encourages them to find and count different characters in books and they predict what will happen next in the story. The childminder supports children's thinking and memory skills as they play games. She is adept in building on what children already know about numbers. She helps them to work out which numbers are bigger than others. The childminder encourages children's imaginative skills as they engage in pretend play after choosing dressing-up clothes, for example.
p.3

The childminder's organises and presents the broad range of toys and equipment attractively for children to choose. Children enjoy a stimulating environment, which they confidently and independently explore. Children learn the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, for example, they know that eating fruit and drinking water is good for them. They play in the childminder's garden, where they get plenty of physical exercise. There is a strong focus on developing children's independence. Children work harmoniously together. They are good at sharing and taking turns. The childminder is a positive role model and supports excellent hygiene routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are active and motivated learners. They develop the skills and knowledge they will need when they are ready to move on to nursery or school, such as counting and learning that words carry meaning.
