This provision is good
The childminder is highly qualified and has a thorough understanding of how children learn. She undertakes observations which she uses effectively to assess what level children have reached in their development. Planned, purposeful play ensures children make good progress in their learning and development. Children are happy and eager to play and learn. They develop strong bonds with the childminder, who is kind and responsive to their needs. The childminder helps to provide children with the emotional security required to learn successfully. The childminder develops strong partnerships with parents. Good channels of communication ensure that all parents are effectively informed about all aspects of their children's care and learning. The childminder is committed to providing a good quality provision. She consistently evaluates the service she provides and sets a range of targets to drive further
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always precisely focus her planning on helping children to work towards the next steps in their learning at a rapid rate. The childminder has not fully established links with staff at other early years settings that children attend to help promote consistency when supporting children's learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
place a greater focus on what children need to learn next and help close any gaps in learning at a faster rate extend links with other early years settings that children attend to enable effective information sharing.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play in the childminder's home. The inspector looked at children's learning records, a selection of policies and a range of other documentation. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is organised and efficient. Effective policies and procedures underpin her good practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to help protect children from harm. She regularly updates her knowledge about child protection issues and the correct procedure to follow if she has concerns. The childminder attends training and reflects on her practice to drive improvements to her teaching. She regularly seeks parents' views and meets with other childcare professionals. This helps her to evaluate and set clear targets to improve the quality of her provision. For example, she has recently introduced systems to obtain even more development information from parents when new children join. This means she is able to plan for children's needs and interests from the start.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder skilfully interacts with children using a good mix of adult-led activities and experiences children choose themselves. She introduces mathematical concepts within children's play. For example, she regularly counts and discusses size and shape with them during activities. Children enjoy opportunities to be creative with paint, glue and a variety of materials. The childminder encourages children to be curious and experiment. An activity which began with children creating pictures, ended up with children exploring the shredded tissue paper in much more detail. Children enthusiastically grasped handfuls of the paper, feeling the texture and delighting as they threw it gently in the air. The childminder joined in their play, extending their learning as she asked them about the colours and size of the materials. Language development is supported well. The childminder joins in with children's play, talking with them, supporting their pronunciation
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model. She encourages children to behave well and has simple rules and boundaries in place that are consistently applied. For example, children understand that they are expected to help with small tasks. They help to tidy up after activities, collecting toys and resources and putting them in containers. The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles successfully. She encourages healthy eating and good personal hygiene. Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and physical activities. The childminder visits local playgroups, parks and libraries which help children to benefit from different social situations.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and use the good range of resources with enthusiasm. They develop a good understanding of a range of mathematical ideas. They count confidently, identify numbers and name different shapes. Children develop their small-muscle skills, for example, as they use paint brushes and glue spreaders to make pictures. Visits to local groups and places of interest in the community help children to develop good social skills. Children are acquiring the skills and attitudes they need for the future and are well prepared for starting nursery or school.
