Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at documentation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. The inspector completed joint observations with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents from documentation completed by them.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder provides a safe home and implements secure procedures to keep children safe on outings. She has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns that a child is at risk of abuse or neglect. The childminder regularly refreshes her knowledge in this area to keep in line with current regulations and legislation. She has a good range of written policies and procedures in place to support her practice. The childminder reflects on her work and looks for ways to improve her provision. She effectively monitors children's progress. The childminder uses this information to plan for children's next steps and identify any gaps in their learning. This helps children to make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy independently exploring and investigating the range of activities and resources provided. Younger children eagerly scrunch shiny foil in their hands and bang wooden spoons onto saucepans. They handle tools, such as paintbrushes with increasing control. Children concentrate as they carefully use the watering can to pour water over the water wheel. The childminder encourages children to develop an early interest in making marks. She demonstrates how to create marks in rice and sand, and shows children how to make sandcastles. Older children enjoy participating in mini-beast hunts in the children's garden and local woods. They use a range of craft materials to create their own colourful mini-beasts.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works closely with parents to help new children settle. She finds out about children's individual needs, their stage of development and daily routines. Children benefit from a well resourced and stimulating learning environment indoors and outdoors. They have time to make choices and follow their interests. Children enjoy a good range of nutritious foods. They are encouraged to develop good table manners. Younger children successfully learn to feed themselves using a spoon. Children enjoy regular exercise. They climb confidently, complete obstacle courses and eagerly participate in sack races. Children visit places of interest around the local community and learn about the diversity of the wider world. They feed lambs at the farm, visit the forest and learn about festivals, such Easter and Diwali.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are acquiring the key skills in readiness for the next stage of their learning and their eventual move on to school. Children eagerly try new experiences. They develop good social skills as they interact with their peers. Older, most-able children are learning to write their name, and name and sound letters of the alphabet.
