This provision is good
The childminder offers a warm and welcoming environment for children to learn in. There is a wealth of resources available for them to access independently which helps support their development. Children enjoy participating in activities and display confidence and eagerness to learn. The childminder carefully adapts and extends activities to allow all children to participate and learn at their own pace. The childminder observes children regularly to enable her to confidently identify areas for development. Robust monitoring of children's learning enables the childminder to plan effective activities to support future progress. Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. Any support needed is quickly identified and addressed. The childminder has developed a strategy to establish links with the local schools for when children are ready to attend. This includes plans to support children's transitions
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Strategies used are not the most effective to enable children to learn about how their behaviour affects others. They do not fully help older children to understand their strong emotions and feelings. Self-evaluation does not include the views of parents to help identify areas for positive change.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, children's learning journeys, and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the home. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of her responsibilities to ensure children are kept safe. She understands the procedure to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder informs all parents of the local procedures if they also have concerns. Since registration, the childminder has made some changes to the provision to support high-quality teaching. She has plans in place to enhance her learning and development by attending short courses. The childminder employs an assistant and has followed robust recruitment procedures to maintain children's safety. The childminder has considered how to monitor the assistant's practice through regular appraisal and supervision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well. She makes accurate assessments of their progress. Monitoring and tracking are focused to allow the childminder to quickly identify any gaps in learning or rapid progress. This supports her planning. Focused activities allow the childminder to offer challenge which takes children's learning to the next level. The childminder uses children's interests to continue their learning experiences. For example, a recent trip to a safari park helped children to explore their interest in animals. The childminder built on this learning by encouraging children to explore the noises animals make. This has helped to support their vocabulary and language. Parents are fully involved in their children's learning. They support ongoing development by sharing home activities suggested by the childminder. These are carefully planned from children's next steps for development. Parents are complimentary about the childminder and the quality

of care she offers. They are well informed about children's progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are learning about healthy lifestyles. They help to prepare their lunches and enjoy making decisions about the food they eat. Pizza making helps the childminder to talk to children about healthy choices and also about trying different foods. Children relish the experience and have fun making their own creations. Children's healthy lifestyles are further supported by the opportunity for daily exercise and fresh air. They have access to a well resourced, enclosed garden. Visits to local places of interest also help to support physical and social development. The childminder encourages children to be independent and learn self-care skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy learning; they are confident, eager and motivated. They like to bring their own ideas into activities and show independence. Children are preparing for what they need to learn next and their eventual move to school. They are happy to be in the care of the childminder and enjoy their time with her.
