children understand what is expected of them. Children behave very well. They are kind and develop caring relationships with each other.  Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents speak very highly about the quality of the provision. Parents particularly like the homeliness of the setting and the wide range of experiences their children enjoy with the childminder and her assistant.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder accurately evaluates her provision, she has not identified specific professional development opportunities that will help raise the quality of teaching further and support children's learning to the highest level.  The childminder and her assistant do not always help children to learn about healthy foods and the effect that different food options can have on their bodies.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 focus more precisely on identifying specific and targeted professional development opportunities to strengthen teaching and support children's learning to the highest level  enhance the opportunities for children to learn about healthy eating and understand the effect this can have on their bodies.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant are trained in safeguarding children and keep abreast of changes to legislation through regular updates. They both display a good knowledge of the possible signs of abuse and implement effective procedures to help to keep children safe. The childminder and her assistant have high expectations of what children can achieve. They gather detailed information from parents about their children's learning when they first start to attend. Parents are kept fully informed about their children's ongoing development. The childminder meets regularly with her assistant to support and build on her skills. This generally impacts positively on practice. The childminder has established good partnerships with the local children's centre and schools. This helps to promote continuity of care for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistant plan a broad range of activities linked to children's interests and individual learning needs. For example, they provide opportunities for children to observe different types of wheels on vehicles during outings and when making tyre tracks in paint. The childminder and her assistant join in children's play enthusiastically and extend children's existing knowledge further. Young children display their developing language skills as they talk excitedly about the aeroplane's flying overhead. The childminder and her assistant respond well to this and reflect back what children say. Young children persist in completing jigsaws demonstrating their understanding of shape. The childminder provides sensitive support and guidance to help children achieve what they set out to do. Children concentrate and become engrossed as they explore natural materials. They work cooperatively together filling buckets with sand

and solve problems of how to turn the buckets over to successfully make sandcastles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistant provide a stimulating and well-resourced environment. Children display motivation. They challenge their balance and coordination skills when climbing and jumping energetically on the trampoline. The childminder's assistant supports children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe on the equipment. Young children skilfully negotiate their own rules for activities and initiate turn taking in their games. The childminder and her assistant promote children's independence well. Children recognise and access their individual fresh water bottles from the shelf. Babies are fiercely independent and insist on feeding themselves with a spoon.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are progressing well in their learning and development. Some children make rapid progress in their communication and language skills and speak assertively using complex sentences from a young age. Children are developing good early literacy and mathematical skills. They count confidently and demonstrate their knowledge of how to use books. All children are developing the skills they need for the future, including when the time comes starting school.
