This provision is good
The childminder makes good use of her qualification, training and experience to deliver a strong provision. She is committed to her role and provides a stimulating learning environment to help children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder supports children's early communication and language skills effectively. For example, she responds warmly to children's babbling, and engages children in songs and rhymes to build their vocabulary. Children are extremely happy, settled and content. They smile and clap their hands in delight, for example, to celebrate their achievements. Children feel exceptionally safe and secure with the childminder, who is exceptionally kind and gentle to them. Supervision is good. The childminder is thorough in her risk assessments of her home, and ensures that children are always within her sight and hearing, to help keep them safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide consistent opportunities for children to explore and investigate using their senses, to extend their imagination and creative skills, and develop further their understanding of the natural world.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
develop more opportunities for children to explore a wide range of media and materials, to satisfy their curious and exploratory nature, and to support their creativity and imagination further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children, and spoke with the childminder and interacted with children at appropriate times. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation and a selection of policies, including safeguarding procedures. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector read written feedback from parents. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision and targets areas for improvement.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has all required policies and procedures in place to protect children and support their well-being. She has completed further training to enhance her knowledge about safeguarding matters. The childminder is keen to improve her service. A course on how to support children who speak English as an additional language, for example, has built on the childminder's already strong teaching skills. The childminder evaluates the setting thoroughly to identify strengths and areas for improvement. She is keen to develop planning procedures, for example, to improve outcomes for children further. The childminder works alongside other professionals and parents to benefit children. Parents report that they are very happy and grateful for the support they receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is thorough in monitoring and assessing children's progress and development. She knows what children can do and enjoy, and is very successful at following their lead. For example, children showed enthusiasm as they explored a variety of balls. The childminder responded quickly to this, and turned it into an enjoyable game, developing their physical skills as they threw and rolled the balls. The childminder teaches children about the similarities and differences of people in society. She uses photographs, for example, to discuss significant people and events, to widen children's understanding of the world around them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder collects a wealth of information from parents to understand children's personalities and individual needs. This helps the childminder to form excellent relationships with them. She has very high expectations of what children can do and challenges them to do things for themselves highly successfully. The youngest children display superb levels of self-esteem and independence. For example, they relish holding their own bottle and show perseverance when feeding themselves and when practising their early walking skills. They find toys that interest and challenge them, and are highly motivated to explore. The childminder supports children's understanding of healthy lifestyles extremely well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and learn important skills for the next stage in their learning. They are extremely eager to learn, and show that they feel safe and emotionally secure. Children learn about the boundaries and expectations to help them understand what is right and wrong. Children behave extremely well.
