p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Children thrive in the care of the enthusiastic and cheerful childminder who ably achieves a highly professional approach within her home environment. The childminder welcomes and acts on support, advice and training from a wide range of sources. The local authority assessed aspects of her childminding provision and she implemented all of the recommendations to a high standard. For example, she did careful research to find high- quality books and resources that include positive images of people with disabilities. She skilfully incorporates these into activities that teach children to accept and respect everyone. The childminder exchanges information with other settings children attend. As a result, concerns about children's progress or well-being are identified and addressed extremely effectively. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps abreast of changes to national policy and Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures.

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

She knows what she must do if she is concerned about the welfare of children in her care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder expertly uses what she knows about children when she plans activities. She knows that older children are ready to listen to longer and more complex stories. She chooses stories that link to children's current interest in scarecrows. The childminder uses exciting resources that help to promote children's understanding of the story. She reads the book again so that children begin to remember and predict the sequence of events. She skilfully asks questions that deepen children's thinking about the characters and story. Children learn about shapes and fractions when they fold bread in half to make a rectangle then cut the rectangle in half and make triangles. They rapidly learn to count and calculate. The childminder plans to enrich her knowledge of how children learn about numbers and intends to evaluate the impact of this on children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder's positive and ambitious approach means the children in her care become confident explorers and successful learners. She skilfully creates everyday opportunities for children to be independent. When children spill their drink they busily go to find a cloth and take pride in cleaning the table themselves. Children eat healthy food and know that eating gives them energy for running, climbing and playing. Babies have time, space and encouragement to practise their early and energetic attempts at moving. The childminder teaches children to be safe. For example, she reads stories that help her to teach children about the risks of playing with matches and fire.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children rapidly acquire the knowledge and key skills that prepare them extremely well for starting school. They demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding for their age. Children's early literacy and numeracy skills are excellent. They understand that reading is pleasurable and informative. They understand some of the purposes of writing and begin to correctly form written letters and words. They can read their own name and familiar words around them. Children demonstrate high levels of self-control. They understand the safety rules for their play. Children consistently try hard to succeed.
