This provision is good
The childminder has worked extremely hard since her last inspection to develop her knowledge of the learning and development requirements. She now uses observations and assessments of children effectively to identify their levels of achievement, interests and learning styles, and accurately plan for their next steps in learning. Teaching is good. The childminder knows children well. She recognises the individual abilities of young children and effectively promotes their early mathematical development. During planned activities, children use numbers for counting and begin to recognise different shapes. The childminder uses a gradual settling-in process to aid children's smooth move into her care. For example, she welcomes families to meet her on several occasions before children start and she visits children in their own homes. Children have developed secure attachments with the childminder. They respond to cuddles when they are tired

and are soothed to sleep in the childminder's arms. Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder shares information about children's progress. She values parents' ongoing contributions and works closely with them to support children's individual care needs. Parents comment positively on the range of activities and outings the childminder provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities to enhance children's language for speaking and thinking are not consistently extended. On occasions, the childminder steps in too readily during children's activities to redirect their learning without allowing them sufficient time to work things out by themselves.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Childcare Register the provider must:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed daily routines and children's activities indoors. The inspector talked to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly discussed the intentions and learning outcomes of this with the childminder. The inspector viewed the childminder's documentation including policies, a self- evaluation form, training certificates and children's learning records. The inspector took account of the views of parents through recently completed questionnaires. The inspector saw evidence of the suitability of all persons living on the premises and other documentation, in relation to the safeguarding and welfare requirements.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues and knows the action to take if she has concerns for a child in her care. The childminder maintains detailed records for young children. However, she has not kept a record of the address, date of birth or daily hours of attendance for the older children in her care. The childminder completes a range of online and face-to-face courses to help maintain her good quality teaching. In addition, she values the support of a local adviser and uses online resources to help keep her knowledge up to date. The childminder welcomes the views of parents and children to reflect upon the service that she provides. Following recent feedback she devised a parents' board to introduce additional ways to share visual information.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Parents contribute to initial assessments of children's starting points. This helps the childminder to plan precisely for each child from the outset of their placement. The childminder provides resources in line with children's current interests. For example, young children eagerly access a range of toy animals and a farmyard play mat following a recent farm visit with parents. They mimic the noise of a cow and revel in the childminder's praise for their achievements. Children engage in pretend play with dolls as they put them to bed and often return to favourite activities. They practise their small-muscle skills as they use their fingers and thumbs to explore the texture of sand and show fascination at the glittered particles. The childminder is fluent in several languages. This supports children's early communication and gives them opportunities to speak in their home language. However, at times the childminder does not provide children with the correct

pronunciation of English words to further support their developing vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children explore the well-organised environment with enthusiasm. They learn to respect others and celebrate a range of cultural festivals. This helps them to develop an understanding of diversity beyond their immediate family. The childminder takes account of the most recent childcare initiatives and gives clear messages to children about how to keep themselves healthy and well. For example, she talks to them about the need for physical exercise and regularly engages them in action songs. Children demonstrate listening by joining in with different ways of moving. The childminder provides children with nutritious food and strictly adheres to dietary preferences. Children enjoy a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, including home-grown pears from the childminder's garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress given their starting points. They are keen to learn and develop good social skills with other children. Children listen well and respond to simple requests. They acquire the key skills essential for school. The childminder has built effective relationships with other settings children attend. She gathers information on activities they take part in at school to help complement the educational programmes she provides. This enables children to extend and secure their previous learning.
