This provision is good
Children are happy, confident and have strong attachments to the childminder. She is kind and caring, and provides a nurturing environment. This helps children to build positive relationships. The childminder works exceptionally well with parents, who receive consistent and accurate information about their children's progress and their daily activities. Parents appreciate the information they receive and it helps them extend their children's learning at home further. The childminder supports children's self-esteem and offers lots of praise and encouragement for their efforts. The childminder is committed to improving her provision for the children and actively seeks out new ideas to improve her practice, such as researching and attending relevant training. The childminder understands how children learn and regularly observes children, which she uses to accurately assess the children's development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently encourage children to manage tasks that they could try and complete themselves, to further build on their independence skills. Occasionally, the childminder does not fully extend children's learning as much as she could during activities, to help children think things through and express their ideas.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas used for childminding. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times of the day. The inspector took into account written feedback from the parents, in the form of questionnaires and references. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including the children's learning records, certificates of training and evidence of suitability of those living on the premises. The inspector observed teaching, and assessed the impact of this on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to safeguard children and knows the procedure to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, such as through attending additional training. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses her links with other local childminders and shares ideas and best practice with them. She regularly assesses areas children use for potential risk and quickly takes steps to address any she identifies so children can play in safety. The childminder values the views of the parents and uses the information gathered from questionnaires to help her to improve her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides the children with a stimulating learning environment. She engages with them during their play and encourages children's understanding of numbers, colours and shapes. For example, children mix paints together to see what new colours they can make. They use their fingers and a range of utensils to form shapes and marks in the paint, and count the range of colours they have used. The childminder gathers detailed information about the children's skills and abilities before they start at the setting, to support her to plan for their individual needs effectively. The childminder has a good knowledge of the progress children make and how children learn and develop. Children enjoy filling and emptying containers with water and the childminder skilfully questions them about the amount in their containers. This helps develop children's mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children respond extremely well to the childminder's warm and reassuring approach. She offers children continual praise and encouragement, and is extremely successfully in supporting their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder effectively encourages good hygiene practices. For example, children learn about why they wash their hands before eating. Children gain an excellent awareness of how to lead healthy lifestyles. For example, they learn about healthy foods and try an excellent range of fruit and vegetables. Children enjoy being outside and being physically active. For example, they build on their coordination skills as they climb on different apparatus, and as they dig in the digging area and search for bugs, such as under the large tree stumps.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are happy and confident and actively engage in, and concentrate on, their chosen tasks. They enjoy singing and develop good language skills. They enjoy stimulating activities and are gaining the skills they need to support their next steps in learning and in readiness for school.
