p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder shows enthusiasm and determination in her role. She uses a range of ways to keep up to date with requirements, including sharing good practice with other childminders. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively and takes positive steps to bring about improvements. For example, since the previous inspection, she has strengthened partnerships with parents and other settings the children attend. She has clear plans to extend opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder shows a good understanding of child protection procedures and the actions to take should she ever have concerns about a child's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children benefit from the childminder's good teaching, guidance and support. The childminder knows the children well and assesses their skills accurately. She provides a range of interesting activities which are well suited to their interests and needs. Strong emphasis is placed on developing children's communication and language skills. For example, the childminder reads frequently to children, asks probing questions about the characters and events in the story, and engages in children's role play. Children have plenty of opportunities to acquire and practise mathematical skills. For example, they counted how many skittles they knocked down with a ball and how many remained.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The children are very happy in the childminder's care. Children are successfully taught good manners. The childminder provides encouragement and praise. Children grow in confidence and self-esteem. They learn to share and take turns. Their good behaviour and positive relationships with others support their learning well. Children are taught the importance of healthy eating and drinking water. For example, during a kitchen role play activity they had good opportunities to select healthy foods from a wide selection.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They gain knowledge, understanding and skills which prepare them well for the next stage of their learning. Children successfully develop their communication and language skills. For example, they listen to stories, nursery rhymes and hold conversations about their learning. Children use their mathematical skills to solve problems. They recognise and name two-dimensional shapes. Children handle tools, toys and programmable devices with increasing coordination and control. They have a good understanding of hygiene routines and healthy foods.
