This provision is good
The childminder's teaching is good. She closely monitors the progress of children, responding to their interests and learning needs to identify and close any gaps in learning. Children make good progress in their learning and development. Children gain a very strong sense of themselves. The childminder supports children admirably to understand about their family customs and cultures as they begin to value diversity. For example, children enjoy going to various story time sessions to hear books read in their home language. The childminder supports children's physical development well. For instance, they have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise by visiting forest schools, local parks and soft play areas. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement. For example, she reflects on all aspects of her practice and takes account of parents' views. She shows a good understanding of her strengths and priorities for improvement.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gather enough information from parents about their children's abilities when they first start and through ongoing assessments. This means together they do not provide as much consistency in children's learning as possible.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

encourage parents to provide more information about children's skills and abilities when they first start and through ongoing assessments, to provide a more consistent approach to children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the areas of the premises that the childminder uses for childminding purposes. The inspector viewed and took into account written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows where to report any concerns about children's well-being should the need arise. Children are well supervised and the childminder understands the importance of risk assessing her premises to ensure the environment is safe for children to play in. She is committed to developing her knowledge further. She has attended a range of training courses, such as managing behaviour and supporting children who have special educational needs, to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's mathematical development well. They become familiar with counting for a purpose during play. For example, while playing hide and seek the childminder encourages younger children to count to 10. The childminder encourages children to learn about music and rhythm, and to use their imaginations. Children have great fun exploring the sounds that instruments make as they create soundtracks for favourite nursery rhymes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder supports children's well-being extremely well. She develops close bonds with children. They respond exceptionally well to her consistent praise and encouragement. During the settling-in process she gathers detailed information from parents in relation to their children's individual care needs. The highly effective settling-in procedure helps to support children to settle quickly. The childminder encourages healthy lifestyles very effectively. She gives children outstanding opportunities to be part of mealtime routines. For example, they butter their own toast and whisk up eggs and milk to help prepare scrambled eggs for lunch. A multitude of educational posters on healthy eating are displayed at children's level to further emphasise the importance of a healthy diet. The childminder is exceptionally consistent and positive in the management of children's behaviour. This helps children to develop a very clear understanding of what is
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children achieve good outcomes in all areas of learning. They enthusiastically join in all the learning experiences and make good progress in relation to their starting points. Children become independent learners and learn to manage their personal needs well. Children learn about technology as they use programmable equipment. For instance, they learn how to turn battery devices off and on, and operate them using different buttons. This helps to prepare children to develop appropriate skills for everyday situations in the future. Children are well prepared for future learning and school.
