This provision is outstanding

 There is superb partnership working between the childminder and her assistant. Their motivation and drive to provide the highest level of care and learning in an environment where children feel secure and safe is inspirational.  The childminder is highly qualified and experienced. She and her assistant are enthusiastic to attend training to maintain their already extremely effective interactions with children. Learning from these courses is evaluated at supervision meetings and used to further inspire children's learning.  Children benefit from excellent teaching. The childminder and her assistant follow children's lead in play where adult-led activities have been planned. This shows how children's ideas and preferences for learning are valued and accommodated.  The childminder provides a homely and incredibly stimulating environment that encourages children to choose and explore independently.

p.1

This provision is outstanding

 Children's outdoor learning experiences successfully promote their creativity, imagination, health, physical and emotional well-being. Children wear appropriate clothing so that they can play and explore in all weather.  Children flourish in the provision. They are confident and their behaviour is excellent. This is because the childminder and her assistant ensure that children are motivated and well occupied throughout the day.  The childminder plans children's learning about people and communities around relevant celebrations and themes. For example, children watch and talk about athletes taking part in the Paralympic Games. This has an immensely positive impact on their understanding of disabilities, similarities and difference.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the main playroom and outside.  The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector asked the childminder and her assistant questions about their practice at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records.  The inspector checked evidence of suitability of all household members and the childminder's qualifications. She also discussed with the childminder how she reflects on her practice to make improvements.  The inspector took account of parents' written views on the quality of the provision.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder and her assistant work tirelessly and collaboratively to reflect on their excellent practice. Their constant evaluations actively contribute to the highly effective provision and the outstanding service they provide to parents and children. Parent's ideas and suggestions about all aspects of their child's care and learning are fully valued and acted upon. Their written comments are very complimentary and they give high praise about the impact the care and learning has on their children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is extremely knowledgeable about local child protection procedures. She and her assistant attend relevant training. They have a first- rate understanding of how to identify and support children who may be at possible risk of neglect or abuse.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder makes excellent use of parent's knowledge and her own observations to assess children's current skills. She and her assistant expertly differentiate each activity to ensure children of different ages and abilities are extending their learning even further. Children are incredibly curious, display superb levels of concentration, motivation and enthusiasm to learn. They frequently laugh and giggle out loud as they play. Children have excellent opportunities to learn about nature and wildlife. They extend their learning through creative play and enjoy using glue and a range of resources to decorate their own 'bug pot'. Children are encouraged to discover new things. They add glitter to their activity and observe how colours and textures change when they are mixed together.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder's assistant spends purposeful time with children outside, encouraging, supporting and inspiring their choices for play. Children have great fun exploring water. They watch with interest as it runs downhill and disappears into the ground. Children have room to be active, noisy and get messy. They strengthen important muscles that are still growing, which enhances their physical development. Children mix, pour and show how they have steady control of bowls full of water and mud. They use their senses to experiment with different textures and materials in the mud kitchen. Children pretend to act out real life scenarios as they put their babies in the supermarket trolley to go and buy apples for their 'mud cakes'. Outdoor learning is enhanced by an environment that is richly resourced with play materials that can be adapted and used in different ways. Despite this, the childminder has high aspirations to improve this area even further, based on

children's learning needs and interests.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children's progress from their starting points is excellent. They are extremely well prepared for their move on to school. Children's early language and literacy skills are developing incredibly well. Older children pretend to read well-known stories to their younger friends. Younger children begin to put two words together to recall what happens next in the story. Learning about number is incorporated into everyday activities to effectively enhance children's mathematical development.
