This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning in relation to their starting points. The childminder, together with his co-childminder, regularly observes what children can do and uses this information to make accurate assessments of their development. He shares this information with parents to involve them in their children's learning and to help them support their children's development at home. The childminder has taken effective action to address the areas for improvement reported at the last inspection. For example, he has attended safeguarding training and has focused on improving the quality of his teaching. The childminder takes the lead in providing a range of healthy snacks and nutritious home-made meals that children enjoy. These help children to make healthy choices. The childminder is proactive in keeping his skills and knowledge up to date and takes part in continued professional development. For example, he has completed training to

It is not yet outstanding because:
Children's early reading skills are not fully supported as part of their literacy development. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to support children's independence in managing those tasks they can complete for themselves.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's and co-childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector viewed, and took into account, written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the correct procedures to follow if he is concerned about a child's welfare. Together with his co-childminder, he implements a wide range of policies to keep children safe and run the provision well. He uses risk assessments and takes appropriate steps to minimise hazards to children's safety. The childminder and his co-childminder use effective processes of self-evaluation to reflect on their service, including seeking the views of parents. Parents have high praise for the quality of care and learning that is provided.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have good opportunities to be active and enjoy spending time outdoors daily to develop their physical skills. For example, they take regular trips into the community, including visits to playgroups and local parks. The childminder plans a range of experiences to help children learn about the differences and similarities between themselves and others. Children develop an understanding of how crops grow. For example, they tend to tomatoes by using spray bottles to water them. The childminder encourages counting during everyday activities, such as when children are taking tools from the tool bench. This helps to support their early mathematical skills. The childminder understands his role to work closely with other settings that children attend to help support their learning and development consistently.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel welcome and relaxed in the childminder's comfortable home. They settle quickly and build exceptional bonds with the childminder, co-childminder and other children. The childminder provides children with comfort and cuddles, particularly when they become tired or in need of support. Children receive regular praise and encouragement, which helps to build their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder is an excellent role model. He gently reminds children to share and take turns and this supports them to play collaboratively. The childminder uses a range of resources and opportunities for children to learn about the world around them. This helps them to value and respect each other's differences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy, settled and enjoy learning and exploring. They make good progress in all areas of learning. For example, they make their own choices, follow instructions and form meaningful friendships with peers. All children show good levels of confidence and self-esteem. All children learn good skills in readiness for their future learning.
