This provision is good

 Focused and targeted improvements have been made since the last inspection. This has helped to raise the quality of practice across all areas of the pre-school and club.  Staff provide each child with a warm and friendly welcome. Children arrive with energy and enthusiasm and settle in very well.  Strong and effective partnership working is established with schools and other professionals. This promotes consistency in children's care and learning and helps them to be prepared well for school.  Staff provide a range of fun experiences that stimulates each child's interest and curiosity. They use a range of effective strategies to support children's concentration and engagement.  Children develop strong self-care and independence skills. They show a growing understanding of how to take manageable risks and keep themselves safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not maximise opportunitites to share information with parents to promote children's learning.  The programme of staff supervision, monitoring and training is not highly monitored and targeted to help ensure the quality of teaching and learning is consistently high.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 use more effective methods to share information with parents right from the start to promote children's learning at the pre-school and at home  develop further the programme of staff supervision, monitoring and training to raise the quality of teaching and learning consistently higher.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the pre-school manager.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school. She looked at a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures and the pre-school's self-evaluation.  The inspector spoke to a small number of parents and carers during the inspection and took account of their views.  The inspector spoke to members of staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection and held meetings with the manager.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a robust understanding of how to keep children safe. They know the procedures to follow should they be worried a child is being abused. The motivated manager has high expectations and regularly checks and reviews the quality of provision and children's progress. She regularly seeks the views of parents, staff and children and uses this information to drive ongoing improvement. Overall, training attended has helped staff understand how to improve. Following training, staff accurately identify and plan for what children need to learn next. This helps children to make good progress from their starting points. Additional funding is used effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff use accurate observations to assess children's learning and the progress they make. The well-planned environment enables children to learn through play and exploration. Children's language skills are promoted well in a variety of ways. For example, staff use stories, props and craft activities to encourage children to talk about their experiences and share their views. Staff introduce children to new vocabulary and sound out words, promoting their early literacy skills. Children choose from a broad range of high-quality resources to stimulate their creativity and imagination skills. They thoroughly enjoy dressing up and engaging in role play activities. Staff skilfully introduce children to a range of team games. They support children's understanding of the rules, providing clear explanations and demonstrations. Children count the objects with confidence, make predictions and develop good critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They are

motivated to learn and eager to invite others to join in with their play. All children are developing the skills to prepare them well for the next stage in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are very good role models and provide children with consistent reminders and explanations of expectations. Children behave very well and play together cooperatively. They are kind, thoughtful and eager to carry out small tasks, such as tidying away resources. Children understand the well-organised routines, which are promoted well by staff and have a strong sense of belonging. They make choices throughout the day and plan their own play and learning. Children's physical and emotional well-being are supported well. They are offered healthy meals and snacks. Children thoroughly enjoy playing outside in the fresh air and practise their physical skills with growing confidence.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop increasing self-assurance and self-esteem. They enjoy good relationships and make friends easily. Children are confident talkers and successful learners. They are keen to offer their own contributions and ideas and listen attentively to others. Children are keen to do things in their own way and to keep on trying. They enjoy their time at the pre-school and are given plenty of opportunities to promote active learning. All children make good progress towards the early learning goals and acquiring the skills they need for future learning.
