This provision is inadequate
The childminder does not implement robust policies, procedures and records to safeguard children and promote their welfare. She has also failed to check that she holds public liability insurance. This means her setting is not managed safely or efficiently. The childminder does not have appropriate fire safety equipment in place. The childminder does not ensure her home is free from the effects of smoking. This compromises children's health. Assessment and the monitoring of children's learning are ineffective and children do not make good progress. The childminder does not have a secure understanding of when to implement the progress check for children aged between two and three years. Parents do not receive a written summary of children's progress during this time. The childminder does not evaluate her practice or seek opportunities to improve her knowledge and skills. This does not help to improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children develop positive relationships with the childminder. They play confidently in her care and their behaviour is good.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
improve the effectiveness of self-evaluation to identify areas for improvement and address professional development needs, including knowledge of any changes in childcare practice, to fully support children's care, learning and development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualification and the suitability of all adults living in the home.
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. The childminder does not hold public liability insurance. She does not obtain all required details from parents, such as their home address. Fire safety equipment is not in place. The childminder has not considered how she will keep information safe online. In addition, although the childminder does not smoke in the presence of children she has not considered the impact on children's health with regards to the lingering effects of smoking in her home. However, the childminder does understand her role in protecting children and of the action she must take to record and report concerns. The childminder does not robustly reflect on all aspects of her provision to gain an accurate picture of her strengths and priorities for improvement. She has attended very little training and does not make the most of professional development opportunities.
p.4
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate
The childminder does not accurately assess children's skills on entry, so that she can identify a clear starting point in their learning. Also, she does not robustly assess and monitor their ongoing development. Furthermore, she has not completed the required progress check for children aged between two and three years and shared a written summary with parents. This does not support children to be ready for their next stage of learning. The childminder promotes children's language and vocabulary appropriately through conversations with them. These exchanges help children develop their communication and language skills.
p.4
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Weaknesses in leadership and management have a negative impact on children's welfare. Despite this, the childminder has built secure relationships with children she cares for. She is kind and caring in her interactions with children, who show that they feel very comfortable in her care. The childminder promotes positive behaviour and praises children for their efforts, which boosts their confidence. Children have daily opportunities to be in the fresh air. The childminder teaches them the importance of road safety when out walking around in the community.
p.4
Outcomes for children are inadequate
Outcomes for children are not good enough. Their health and well-being are compromised due to significant weaknesses in the childminder's practice. Children do not make sufficient progress in their learning and development due to gaps in teaching. However, they are acquiring some skills necessary for their future learning and move to school. For example, they develop their speaking and listening skills as they talk with the childminder during play. Children attend groups and mix with other children, supporting their social and personal skills. They enjoy opportunities that support their physical development.
