This provision is good

 Children establish strong bonds with the childminder and demonstrate that they are confident in her home. They explore the wide range of resources and are happy, settled and content. This helps children learn to lead their own play and they make good progress in their learning from their starting points.  The childminder makes effective use of her local area to extend the range of interesting learning experiences children receive. Children get involved in the community and learn to embrace, value and respect similarities and differences in themselves and others.  The childminder has good relationships with parents. She shares her knowledge and ideas with parents and they appreciate how this helps them support their children's learning at home.  The childminder provides a safe and stimulating environment. She carries out daily risk assessments to help ensure resources and activities are appropriate for children to use

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, the childminder does not provide children with enough time to develop their ideas and creativity further.  The childminder does not yet effectively explore all opportunities to develop her professional skills to help her raise the quality of her practice to the highest level possible.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 allow children more time to respond to and explore their own ideas and creativity  explore ways to extend skills and knowledge even further to continually improve the quality of care and teaching.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the premises and observed children engaged in a variety of learning experiences.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is fully committed to her work with children and is aware of the importance of supporting their welfare and development. She knows the children well and regularly monitors and tracks their progress. She uses this information effectively to identify gaps in learning and plan how to close these. The childminder has an up-to-date and secure understanding of how to identify, and who to report to, any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder effectively uses a range of policies and procedures to support children's health, safety and well-being. Safeguarding is effective. She evaluates the quality of the service she provides, and gathers parents' views as part of this process. This helps her to continually improve her setting and outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is knowledgeable and she provides a wide range of interesting activities which helps capture children's attention and extends their learning. She uses information from her assessments well to inform her planning. This helps her meet children's needs and interests well. The childminder supports younger children to engage in activities and encourages them to move forward in their learning. For example, very young children are confident and inquisitive, and enjoy pushing buttons on equipment to make sounds. She encourages younger children to independently move around the room to help them gain confidence in their walking. The childminder supports children's early language skills well. For example, she uses music and rhymes to help them learn new words and sounds.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. She supports them during their settling-in period and they become familiar with the routines quickly. The childminder is a calm and positive role model who regularly praises children's efforts and achievements. She has completed behaviour management training and supports children to manage their feelings and behave well. She is flexible in her organisation of the routines of the day, offering children choices about what they would like to do. This helps to encourage children's engagement and builds on their self-esteem. Children gain an awareness of healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices. For example, the childminder provides children with a selection of nutritious snacks and good opportunities for them to enjoy regular fresh air and exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children gain the skills they need for their future learning and in readiness for school. Younger children settle well, become confident and build relationships. They develop good social skills and learn to share and take turns. For example, children visit playgroups and experience being part of a larger group and meeting new people.
