This provision is good

 Children make consistently good progress in their learning and development. Overall, the childminder provides children with a good range of learning opportunities.  Children develop a range of positive skills in readiness for school. Overall, they play with good levels of independence.  Children respect each other and share their ideas and toys. The childminder has a very positive relationship with all of the children in her care.  The childminder takes positive steps to bring about effective change to her setting. This improves children's experiences. This is a significant improvement since the last inspection.  The childminder has developed positive relationships with parents, other providers and professionals. This provides consistency for children's care and learning needs and is particularly effective for those children with special educational needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not plan enough opportunities for children who prefer to learn outdoors, to extend their all-round development.  On occasion, the childminder does not give children the freedom to explore their individual creative ideas.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop opportunities for children who prefer to learn outside to explore and investigate, to extend their learning  give children more opportunities and freedom to explore and follow their individual creative ideas.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children inside and outside.  The inspector spoke with children and took the written accounts of parents into consideration.  The inspector conducted a leadership and management discussion, and a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a range of documents, including children's learning journals.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements rigorous safeguarding procedures and understands how to protect children's welfare. The childminder identifies training programmes that have a direct and positive impact on children's experiences. For example, the childminder used knowledge gained from training to review her assessment procedures, to help her to identify children's next steps in learning. The childminder reflects on her practice and makes continuous improvements to her setting. For example, the childminder has reorganised resources so that children can easily find the things they would like to play with. The childminder monitors children's learning carefully and plans activities that help children to extend their understanding and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Interactions between the childminder and children are warm and positive, and help children make progress. For example, children explored ice and warm water, and the childminder asked children useful questions to help them talk about their observations. The childminder is good at watching children and extending their play. For example, children talked about the weather and temperatures, and the childminder developed a winter role-play game with scarves and hats. The childminder responds well to children's interests and uses this as a starting point to introduce other areas of learning. For example, children loved investigating the ice activity and the childminder encouraged them to count and line up the toy polar bears as they played.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. Children learn to use good table manners and to be polite. The childminder reminds children to be kind and to think about others. For example, children take turns with dressing-up clothes and help others when they cannot find the things they want. Children develop a positive understanding of how to stay healthy. They eat a range of fruits and vegetables at snack time, and get lots of opportunities to develop their physical skills as they play outside in the fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are very enthusiastic as they play. They are confident, engaged and interested in their learning. For example, they return to activities repeatedly to test out their ideas and investigate changes. Children develop good skills that will help them as they go on to school.
