This provision is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and she implements early years requirements effectively to encourage children's positive outcomes. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to improving her practice. She continues to develop her knowledge, for example through training. She has made good improvements since her last inspection, such as changing her procedures for administering medicine to children. The childminder plans the indoor and outdoor learning environments well to provide children with a wide range of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences across the different areas of learning. The childminder typically understands how children learn and she knows the children in her setting well. She supports their development in most areas and they make good progress. Children behave well. They develop strong bonds and good relationships with the childminder. Children are happy and secure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not give children appropriate help or time to extend their thinking or communication skills. Children are not sufficiently sure how to use some resources as safely as they should.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children as they engaged in activities together. The inspector had discussions with the childminder and talked with children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector discussed children's progress with the childminder. The inspector took account of parents' views through the questionnaires provided. The inspector looked at areas of the premises used for childminding and looked at a range of the childminder's documents, including children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to safeguard children. She is confident in the action to take to protect children if she has a concern about their welfare. The childminder checks her provision and children's progress effectively. She regularly observes and records children's achievements and accurately assesses them to highlight any gaps in their learning. She works closely with parents to complement children's care and learning experiences from home and she regularly shares children's achievements with them. She encourages them to share her views about her practice and she uses this as part of her evaluation of what she does.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder typically plans challenging and interesting activities that motivate children to learn. Overall, she engages children's interests well and supports their learning as they play. For example, as children have fun exploring with cornflour and shaving foam, the childminder encourages them to count, identify colours and recognise shapes. Children enjoy listening to the childminder read to them and being creative using various craft materials. Children have many opportunities to enhance their physical skills, such as climbing, running and balancing as they play on the garden equipment. They learn about nature and explore the natural world. For example, they care for and grow their own plants, and use magnifying glasses to look more closely at the creatures they find around the garden.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children's personal and emotional development by praising their achievements and supporting them to feel good about what they do. She finds out about children's backgrounds and she supports this through planned activities. She counts with children in their home languages to make them feel valued. The childminder supports children's social development well. For example, she organises playdates with other childminders to encourage children to mix, play, learn to share and take turns. The childminder encourages children to develop healthy practices, such as regular handwashing and to develop their independence with their personal care needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy learning and are keen and eager to take part in activities. They develop good levels of concentration and they express their needs confidently. They listen and respond well to the childminder's requests and questions. Children have good levels of independence as they begin to take responsibility for tasks such as setting the table for lunch. This, along with gaining early reading, writing and number skills well, helps prepare them for the next stages of their development and readiness for school.
