This provision is good
The childminder uses observation and assessment successfully to inform planning for children's future learning. She challenges children effectively and they make good progress. The partnerships with parents are effective with regard to exchanging information and working together in order to meet children's care and learning needs. Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care and relationships are good. They are self-assured and confidently make decisions about their play activities. The childminder provides a good variety of activities and resources and children move freely and confidently between indoor and outdoor play space. Children's physical development is promoted well by the childminder. They are physically active while playing in the childminder's garden and they enjoy trips to the park where equipment is challenging for children at different stages of development. The childminder reviews her provision in order to improve. For example, she seeks

support from representatives of the local authority in order to keep her early years knowledge up to date.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to aid children with their pronunciation of some sounds as they develop their speaking skills. The childminder does not fully support children's emerging knowledge of the wider world. Their understanding of people, families and traditions beyond their own is not fully extended through the experiences that she provides.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities as children played in the indoor and outdoor play areas. The inspector observed activities and discussed teaching methods with the childminder. The inspector looked at evidence of the childminder's training and checked evidence of the suitability of adults. The inspector looked at a selection of children's assessment records and planning, policies and procedures and a range of other documentation. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect, and the local procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child. Necessary suitability checks for all adults who live in the household have been completed. The childminder ensures that children are continually supervised. She identifies and successfully minimises potential risks in her home and garden. The childminder keeps her child protection and first-aid knowledge up to date. Her procedures for self-evaluation take account of early years information provided by the local authority and the knowledge and experience shared by other childminders. The childminder obtains verbal and written feedback from parents about her provision. They comment positively about the progress that children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make good progress. The childminder uses her observations and assessment, and information from parents, to ensure that children are challenged effectively to reach the next stage in their development. Children engage in imaginative role play. Older children use their good speaking skills when pretending that objects represent something else, for example, in the role-play shop. Children's sensory exploration is supported well by the childminder. They explore the texture of shaving foam and describe it as looking like milkshake. Children choose to play with toy trains, and young children use their good manipulative skills to carefully place them onto a track. The childminder extends mark- making opportunities as she encourages the children to manoeuvre the trains through paint that has been poured into a large tray.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play in a warm and welcoming environment. They are emotionally secure and the relationships between the childminder and the children are strong. Children's emotional security begins with a good settling-in procedure that is agreed with parents. The childminder ensures that children are aware of the boundaries for behaviour and that she is consistent in her approach. Children's self-confidence is boosted as she praises their efforts as well as their achievements. They play cooperatively with their friends and learn to share and take turns. Children develop an understanding of dangers and how to keep themselves safe, such as how to cross the road safely. Their good health is promoted well. They eat healthy food and are physically active.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills in readiness for the move on to pre-school and school. They develop independence. For example, toy boxes are clearly labelled with words and pictures and stored so that children can choose and select for themselves. Children learn to manage clothing and shoes for themselves and manage their self-care needs. Children count while they play and older children are learning to recognise numerals. Pencil control is developing well and children learn to recognise and write their names.
