This provision is good
The childminder has addressed the weaknesses identified at the previous inspection. For example, she has taken the necessary steps to ensure that she has a secure understanding of how to raise concerns to protect a child's welfare. The childminder has worked well to review her provision, and plan and implement improvements. For example, she has improved her use of systems for observing and assessing children's progress and now uses these well to identify when children need help to catch up. Children make good progress. Parents receive useful information about their children's learning, including the required progress check for children aged two years. This enables parents to support their children's learning at home. Children respond well to the childminder's consistent and clear manner. They learn about acceptable behaviour and to share and take turns.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always fully consider the understanding of individual children when asking questions, or give them the time they need to answer, to further extend their learning. The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to extend children's developing reading and writing skills, to further encourage this aspect of their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop a broader range of methods and teaching strategies to further extend children's understanding and ability to think and respond improve opportunities for children to develop their early reading and writing skills during their everyday experiences.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children in the childminder's home. The inspector discussed the learning that was taking place with the childminder. The inspector took account of the parents' views. The inspector assessed the childminder's knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures. The inspector sampled documentation, including the childminder's policies and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the responsibilities of her role. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures her understanding of child protection remains up to date. She identifies areas for further improvement effectively. For example, she has begun to plan more outings in the local community to enhance the activities children enjoy in her home. She has made good use of opportunities to improve her teaching skills and improve her understanding of child development. She builds on the warm relationships she establishes with parents to work together to help children develop skills and make progress. For example, she works well with parents to develop children's speech and extend their vocabulary.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder organises a good range of play-based experiences to extend children's learning, based on each child's current stage of development. For example, she reads longer stories to support the interest of older children and simpler stories for younger children, or those who need extra help with their developing speaking and listening skills. The childminder helps all children develop an understanding of different people and cultures. For example, she has improved the range of resources and books that reflect different ways of living and talks with children about their different features.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's good health and emotional well-being effectively. She reminds children about the importance of washing their hands before eating to help them stay healthy. She provides a range of healthy snacks and gently encourages children to try what is on offer. She notices when children are tired and helps them settle to sleep with their favourite comforters. Children build warm and trusting relationships with the childminder. They enjoy her company and feel safe and happy in her home. The childminder builds children's confidence and self-esteem effectively. For example, she offers plenty of praise and encouragement as children go about their day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a good set of skills in preparation for their future learning, including for when they start pre-school or school. They learn about staying safe; for example, as they learn about the potential dangers of cars on busy roads. They learn skills that help them develop greater independence, such as putting on their shoes and coats by themselves. Children enjoy stories and learn to recite numbers and count well. They learn about diversity well and the similarities and differences between themselves and others.
