This provision is good
The childminder has effectively addressed all actions and recommendations from her last inspection. She has worked closely with the local authority support adviser and other colleagues to develop her good understanding of the early years foundation stage. In addition, she reacts swiftly to ensure all legal requirements are met. Children settle very quickly in the childminder's care. She is extremely responsive to children and supports their individual needs particularly well. The childminder is very respectful and sensitively helps children to build a strong sense of security. Children's emotional well-being is strong. They are happy in the childminder's home. The childminder promotes children's communication and language development very well. She skilfully extends what children say to help build their vocabulary and uses excellent tone of voice to engage babies in playful conversations. From an early age the

childminder supports children in developing a good knowledge of songs and rhymes. The childminder builds strong relationships with parents from the start. She gathers in- depth information about children's development and keeps parents fully informed about their progress. Parents are highly complementary about the quality of care and learning experiences the childminder provides for their children. Partnerships with schools are well established and strong. Information about children's learning and development is consistently shared. This helps to ensure there is a joined- up approach to support children's individual needs.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Self-evaluation is not effectively used to analyse practice and identify specific areas that could be further improved. The childminder does not use every opportunity to fully promote young children's developing independence during self-care routines.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector checked a selection of documents, including children's records, assessments, suitability checks and training certificates. The inspector carried out an evaluation of teaching with the childminder following a planned activity. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. She took account of the views of parents spoken with during the inspection and also from written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has recently updated her child protection training. This helps her to improve her knowledge and remain up to date with changes to legislation. She demonstrates a good understanding of the possible signs of abuse and has good systems in place to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has established a clear pathway for her own and her assistant's professional development. She meets regularly with her assistant to support her. This has a positive impact on practice and outcomes for children. The childminder is undertaking an early years qualification course at level 3 to extend her knowledge and enhance her good teaching. She has started to evaluate her practice. She provides questionnaires for parents to make suggestions and help her to develop the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder displays a good understanding of how babies and children learn. She makes accurate assessments of children's learning and monitors their progress regularly. This enables her to identify areas where children are not achieving as expected. The childminder plans and spontaneously adapts activities to promote children's learning. For example, she provides water play activities to build on what babies and children know and to increase their understanding. Young children experience cause and effect as they pour jugs of water over the water wheel. They continue to repeat this and show delight in their discoveries. The childminder provides a quiet environment to help focus children's listening skills. She reads stories to babies and young children, using good expression. This captures their interest. Children wait in anticipation and excitedly name the animals as they sit cosily together with the childminder. Young children demonstrate excellent hand-

eye coordination as they precisely place body parts to build play characters.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a well resourced and stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors. Her large garden provides exciting opportunities for children of different ages to challenge their physical capabilities. Babies build their body control and strength as they confidently pull themselves up to standing using child-sized sturdy furniture. Children's physical well-being is strong. The childminder is a very good role model. She provides sensitive guidance for young children as they learn to understand the needs of babies. Their behaviour is good. Children display healthy appetites and enjoy the healthy snacks provided. The childminder effectively supports children to develop their understanding and respect for people who are different to them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are progressing well in their learning and development. Children are developing good early literacy and mathematical skills. They are highly motivated and display good levels of concentration from an early age. Children willingly try new activities and show an interest in the world around them. All children are developing the skills and positive attitudes they need for their future learning, including, when the time comes, starting school.
