This monitoring visit

A full inspection of this service was undertaken on 13 July 2016. The inspection judgement was inadequate in all judgement areas. Eight requirements and three compliance notices were raised. This monitoring visit has been undertaken to review the actions taken by the provider to improve the home. The registered manager acted quickly and robustly in addressing the shortfalls identified at the last inspection. The registered manager and staff were able to reflect on what had gone wrong and act in a decisive manner to put these matters right, placing the welfare of young people as their priority. The registered manager took sufficient and prompt action to meet the three compliance notices raised. The registered manager has taken steps to ensure that they are now able to identify the educational needs of young people and to meet these needs. There have been improvements in the procedures used when new young people come to live at the home to ensure that appropriate educational

Staff are now better at meeting young people’s health needs through the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The registered manager is ensuring that young people receive advice, guidance, and support from health professionals working with the young people. The registered manager has taken action to meet shortfalls identified under the protection of children standard. Training sessions have taken place with the staff team to address shortfalls in knowledge. An improved risk assessment model has been implemented. Changes to serious incident management and reporting, together with clear guidance for staff when there are serious concerns for a young person’s welfare and safety, have been made. The registered manager has reviewed and updated documentation in relation to young people that go missing from care, to help and improve staff practice in this area. In addition, the manager and staff completed a risk assessment in respect of a

window restraint. This sufficiently addresses concerns regarding the physical environment. Additionally, the registered manager has now secured full and satisfactory information in respect of each person working at the home, as required by regulation. The registered manager has developed a comprehensive improvement action plan, which sets out how they will meet all the remaining requirements raised at the full inspection. Some requirements remain in place. The progress made by the registered manager and staff in meeting these requirements will be subject to further review at the next full inspection.
