The childminder consistently observes children to identify their achievements and plans effectively for their future learning. She regularly exchanges information with parents and informs them fully about their children's learning and progress. The childminder keeps up to date with childcare issues. For example, she attends various training workshops and reads relevant literature to improve her practice and enhance her professional knowledge.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder organises the learning environment well to provide children with a range of experiences across the different areas of learning. For example, children have fun engaging in role play opportunities, such as in the home corner and building with construction. They enjoy discovering how things work and exploring various objects they find, such as those placed in baskets. They enjoy outings, for instance, trips to the local children's centre, where they engage in other activities, such as painting, sand and water play. The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn. She actively engages in their play to support their learning. For example, she engages in conversation and suitably asks questions, while encouraging children to repeat words and follow instructions.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development well. She is kind and caring in her approach, and children listen and respond well to her. The childminder sensitively guides and provides clear explanations to children, including how to behave, to support their understanding. For example, she encourages children to follow hygiene routines and reminds them about safety, such as when using resources. She regularly praises children for their achievements, which contributes towards developing their self-esteem. Children benefit from regular active play, such as through visits to the park and toddler groups where they have the opportunity to explore the large equipment available.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress, typical for their age and stage of development. They show good levels of confidence, such as when exploring their environment and resources. They learn to mix and play with other children and show good independence skills. For example, at mealtimes, they learn to handle utensils correctly to feed themselves.
