This provision is good
The childminder has implemented thorough systems to observe and assess children's progress. She knows the children well and purposefully checks how well they develop to identify any who may need extra help. The childminder shares her findings with parents to keep them up to date with their children's progress. She also encourages parents to support their children's learning at home to help encourage positive outcomes for children. The childminder teaches well and provides a well-organised and welcoming home environment for children. She makes thorough checks of her home each day to identify and remove any hazards, to help provide a safe environment for children. The childminder develops her childcare knowledge effectively to meet the children's needs. For example, she has completed training to develop her assessment and methods for checking how well children make progress. Children feel secure, well cared
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently develop some aspects of children's mathematical understanding and learning. The childminder does not always gather enough information relating to what children can do or understand before they start, to help plan for their learning more effectively.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures and children's records. The inspector conducted a tour of the premises that the childminder uses for childminding purposes. The inspector viewed and took into account written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the procedures to follow about any concerns she may have to protect children's welfare. She continually strives to improve her work. She regularly evaluates her practice to make ongoing improvements. For example, information gained from parents' questionnaires indicated that their children wanted more support with homework. The childminder has now implemented a Friday homework club with the children to help boost their learning. She has implemented good systems to support children's individual care and welfare needs and to help reach a good level of provision since she started.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's effective teaching across most areas of learning enables children to make good progress. She plans meaningful activities, taking into account children's individual needs and interests. The childminder challenges children's learning during play, for example, by skilfully asking them questions to encourage their language and thinking. She further extends children's language and communication skills through activities such as daily story times and attending musical sessions. Children enjoy opportunities that develop their imagination and creativity. They concentrate intently as they manipulate and explore modelling dough and make 'yummy meals' for their favourite teddy bear. A wide range of resources and opportunities encourage children's imagination and creativity further. For example, children use the doll's house and play spaceships to act out various roles in their role play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is calm, caring and forms secure emotional attachments with the children. She develops their self-confidence and supports their well-being effectively. The childminder provides an interesting range of resources, all of which are organised effectively for children to use. Parents take the lead in providing meals. However, the childminder encourages children to have a positive attitude to healthy living. For example, they visit local farms to do fruit and vegetable picking, and walk when coming to the setting. Children behave well and are clear on the childminder's boundaries and expectations.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in relation to their starting points and are motivated to learn. They learn a wide range of skills which help to prepare them for the next stage in their learning and the move to school. Additionally, they develop effective physical skills. For example, children skilfully handle small coloured gems to create pictures. They also engage in a wide range of physical activities when they use the childminder's garden.
