She knows who to turn to for assistance and guidance. Robust policies and procedures underpin the childminder's good practice to promote children's well-being and safety. The childminder has a strong drive to improve. She makes good use of training and support from other professionals to raise the quality of her provision. This has, for example, helped her to develop rigorous procedures for assessing children's progress and planning their future learning. Parents appreciate the consideration and concern for their children's happiness that the childminder shows.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder creates a warm and friendly environment where children are welcomed and keen to learn. She helps them to settle quickly into positive routines that help them feel secure and confident. She works closely with parents to help children follow their interests and play with toys and resources which capture their imagination. For example, children develop their problem-solving skills and knowledge of colour through completing jigsaws and other activities based on their love of dinosaurs. The childminder helps children to extend their speaking and listening skills. For example, she asks well- considered questions and speaks clearly and purposefully to them. Stimulating resources, such as the imaginative story and role play boxes, promote children's positive attitudes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
There is a calm, friendly and busy atmosphere. Children build strong bonds with the childminder. She sets a very clear example for children to follow. Children are courteous and learn to listen to others and consider their needs. They behave well and are helped to consider the consequences of their actions on others. The childminder promotes children's social skills well overall. For example, children work together to count the pieces and share their toy birthday cake between everyone there. They make up the rules for their own racing game with their toy vehicles. Children grow in confidence and security. The childminder promotes children's knowledge and understanding of good hygiene procedures and of healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. Children listen carefully and speak about things that interest them. They concentrate and follow instructions. Children develop their counting skills well and learn to order objects by shape, colour and size. Children's early reading and writing skills are developed well. For example, they excitedly anticipate the next part of the story they are listening to and join in the repeated phrases. Children are well prepared for their further education overall and have positive attitudes to play and learning. For example, they learn to share with other children and to express their preferences.
