This provision is good
The childminder has successfully improved her provision since the last inspection. She has updated her knowledge and training, and skilfully applied this to her observations and tracking records to help raise children's learning and progress. Children are happy and confident in the care of the childminder. Together they have good relationships and children demonstrate that they feel self-confident and safe. Children behave well and share effectively. The childminder supports children's health and well-being effectively and she teaches children about good hygiene procedures. The childminder plans and provides a varied learning environment for the children, which helps them make good progress from their starting points. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder shares information with parents daily to help support continuity of care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Younger children do not always benefit from a wide range of media and materials to further encourage their sensory exploration. Children who learn best outside do not have as many opportunities outdoors to experience activities and materials in all areas of learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the range of media and materials accessible to younger children to help support them to explore and experiment improve the opportunities for children who learn better outside to take part in activities outdoors that cover all areas of learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the provision and activities in the main play areas. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation including planning, children's learning journeys and records, the childminder's self-evaluation and policies. The inspector took account of the views of parents through available letters and references. The inspector gave feedback to the childminder at the end of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures. She is confident in the signs and symptoms that may cause concern and is knowledgeable in the processes to follow to make a referral. The childminder protects the children well, for example, she ensures that they are consistently supervised and she completes daily checks of the environment to minimise potential hazards. The childminder works successfully in partnership with parents and other professionals, to help her track children's progress and put into practice their changing routines.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children effectively and observes their development. She accurately highlights their next steps in learning and plans activities well overall. The childminder plans a variety of outings effectively to build upon children's development. For example, children regularly attend toddler groups where she encourages them to talk to others to build on their social skills. The childminder supports children's speaking, listening and concentration skills well. For example, when playing altogether, she skilfully asks questions to help children with their sentence structure and understanding, to build upon their speech. Children develop good mathematical skills and the childminder interweaves mathematical concepts effectively into everyday activities. For example, she talks to children about the numbers and sizes of dolls, and talks about colours as they make imaginary food to eat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to behave well and be polite. She provides them with good support and builds on their emotional well-being, for example, with consistent and ongoing praise. The childminder supports children's good health effectively. She provides children with nutritious snacks and encourages their physical skills well. The childminder provides children with regular outdoor play. They walk into town, and explore the fields and woodlands, building on their physical skills. The childminder teaches children how to be safe. For example, she talks to them about the importance of sitting down while eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop important skills needed to aid their learning and development. Younger children respond positively to the childminder's good interactions and develop essential skills needed for communication. For example, the childminder sings songs to help them put words together. Children have their individual needs and interests met well. For example, when playing with the animals and the ark with the childminder, they use reference books to help them expand their knowledge on insects and less frequently seen animals.
