This provision is good

 The childminder reflects well on her practice and makes ongoing improvements, seeking training opportunities and sourcing resources which support the children in her care. Children and families are valued and have a strong sense of belonging.  Children are taught well and are typically happy. Nearly all areas of their learning are covered. Parents are informed regularly about what their children do and their progress is checked carefully to identify those who may need extra support.  Children's behaviour is good and they are secure. The childminder talks to the children in a kind and friendly way. This helps them develop positive and respectful relationships with each other.  Children are confident and enjoy playing and learning together. All children make good progress from their different starting points. The childminder tries to take account of children's individual interests to motivate their desire to learn.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There are not always appropriate resources for children's different ages or stages of learning.  The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to help the younger children to develop their speech and language skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve support for younger children to develop their speech and language skills  ensure that activities planned cater more effectively for children's different ages and stages of learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint observation and discussed this with the childminder.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching in the childminder's home and garden.  The inspector looked at a selection of documentation such as children's assessment information and policies and procedures.  The inspector took into account the views of parents and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has developed a setting where children are valued, included and make good progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do in the event of concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has further developed her skills and knowledge since her last inspection, which directly benefits both the children and families. For example, she has enhanced her knowledge of brain development and kept up to date with toilet training approaches to support families and strengthen parent partnerships. She reflects effectively upon the opportunities she provides to maintain good provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of most areas of learning and captures children's interests through observation and discussion with parents. Opportunities for discussion of differences are plentiful. For example, a snack time conversation about fruit led to discussions and learning of new words such as 'ripe'. Regular and accurate assessments of the children's, skills, knowledge and understanding inform relevant learning opportunities for the children, particularly in mathematics. For example, younger children explored the properties of shape and size through playing and exploring with a variety of shape sorters. Older children like taking risks and problem-solving to order numbers in relation to size. The childminder uses mathematical language clearly and provides meaningful activities based on children's interests, such as using scales to weigh food in a game of 'shops'. Children progress well in their mathematical understanding.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. Children feel happy, secure and enjoy playing and learning together. They are confident in their explorations and interactions with the childminder. She values the role of families in supporting children's emotional development and provides a flexible and sensitive move into the setting. The childminder's contacts with children are sensitive and encouraging. Children learn to be independent. They behave well, and rules are understood and relayed confidently by older children in the setting.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make consistently good progress from their different starting points. Children develop secure early mathematical skills along with their early listening and reading skills. Children form positive relationships within the setting, which support them in being prepared their next stage of learning.
