The childminder knows children well and assesses their progress carefully. She plans interesting and stimulating activities and experiences that match children's individual needs successfully. Children make good progress from when they start in the setting. Children are keen learners and develop positive social skills. They behave well and respond readily to the childminder. Children learn about the importance of safety procedures and healthy lifestyles to support their well-being. The childminder forms positive partnerships with parents, carers and other settings that children attend. She communicates information effectively with others involved in children's care and learning to encourage consistency. The childminder follows rigorous safeguarding procedures to help keep children safe. She supervises children closely and provides a safe environment. identify and address areas for improvement.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to respond during discussions to fully support their thought processes. The childminder does not provide a wide range of opportunities for children to see letters, words and numbers to fully support their early reading and mathematical skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together. The inspector talked to the childminder about her practice throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, the childminder's self-evaluation document and evidence of her training and qualifications. The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers through written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to safeguard children and supports their learning and care needs well. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with child protection guidance and has a good knowledge of what to do in the event of concerns about a child. For example, she researches information on the internet so that she is able to recognise all indicators of children at risk of harm. The childminder uses her previous training experiences to develop good practice. For example, she encourages children to talk about their understanding of choices and consequences in a small group to support their personal development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows children's interests successfully and provides interesting experiences to encourage discussion. For example, she provides photographs of familiar people and previous activities that children enjoy talking about. The childminder explains and demonstrates how things work to help children make sense of the world. The childminder works well with parents to find out about children's interests, preferences and capabilities when they first start with her. She guides parents effectively to support their children's learning at home. For example, she provides them with activity packs and teaches them children's favourite songs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder praises children routinely for their efforts and achievements. She is a positive role model and encourages children to make good choices about their behaviour. The childminder teaches children about safety procedures, for example, recognising traffic light colours and what they mean. She encourages active play and good hygiene procedures to support children's health and well-being. The childminder takes some steps to help children learn about people who are different from themselves, and has plans to improve this area of learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They explore the learning environment with curiosity and are able to follow their own ideas. For example, they enjoy exploring what happens when they pour water into the sandpit. Children develop new vocabulary quickly and they become confident and articulate communicators. They are able to recite familiar songs independently. Children enjoy the responsibility of helping out with small tasks to support their independence skills. They show control in handling materials and using simple tools. Children are well-prepared overall for their next stages in learning and for school.
