Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and evaluated these jointly with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, observation and assessment files and a selection of policies. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views, through discussion and from the written documentation they had provided for the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualification and the suitability of all adults living in the home.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder checks her home and equipment daily for risks and ensures that all hazards are minimised. In addition, an annual written risk assessment is completed. She is fully aware of the signs of abuse and understands the importance of reporting any concerns. She is aware of the importance of evaluation and has recently improved her organisation of records. Recommendations from her last inspection have been addressed. She is dedicated in her pursuit of ongoing training and the benefits this brings to children's learning. She speaks with parents daily to share information about the activities, care and routines of the day. As a result, parents are kept well informed about their children's progress. The childminder understands the importance of developing close links with other settings to support children as they move on.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities linked to children's interests, supporting them in their continuous development. Children confidently make choices, communicate effectively and recall events which are special to them. They respond well to questions posed by the childminder who reaffirms young children's early attempts to communicate. Young children make good progress physically and eagerly engage in and discover new experiences. They are able to stand independently as they reach out to explore the texture of the shredded paper. The childminder continually praises children for their achievements, which inspires them to have a go and helps build their self-confidence. Resources are readily accessible to children. This all helps to support their independence and decision making and supports them to make good progress in their overall development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave extremely well and demonstrate they are happy, relaxed and confident. The childminder responds to them with warmth and affection and children readily approach her for comfort. They listen and follow instructions and are learning to share and take turns. This helps to promote children's emotional well-being. Children manage their self-care well. They dispose of tissues in the bin provided and discuss the scent and cleanliness of their hands after using antibacterial gel. They enjoy freshly prepared fruit and benefit from plenty of fresh air and exercise when playing outdoors. This all helps to promote their understanding of a healthy lifestyle. Children learn about keeping safe as they move around and are supported well through the childminder's close supervision and guidance.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They grow in independence and manage their personal care needs, relative to their capabilities and ages. They listen and respond to simple requests and make good progress in their physical development. Overall, children are developing key skills that they need for the next stage in their learning and for their eventual move on to school.
