This provision is good
The childminder provides enjoyable opportunities for children to learn and explore in an attractive and safe environment. From their starting points, children make good progress in their learning. Children build a strong bond with the childminder, who relates to them extremely well. They feel safe and secure in the childminder's nurturing care. The childminder places a strong emphasis on the safeguarding of children. She keeps identified hazards to a minimum, supervises children well and updates her knowledge of current child protection issues. The committed and keen childminder is continually looking for ways to improve the quality of her provision, for example, through training. She gives children a good start on their path to educational success.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder lacks a little confidence and knowledge in targeting her teaching more precisely to support children where she identifies they may benefit from additional support. Children do not always have opportunities to extend their creativity, in particular, to explore a wide range of musical and singing activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's interaction with the childminder and their play and activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used for the care of children. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector discussed the quality of children's learning experiences with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's records and evidence of the childminder's qualifications and suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what action to take if concerned about a child's welfare. She implements policies that help to keep children safe, such as those relating to the use of mobile phones and cameras. She is aware of her responsibility to notify Ofsted of required information. Children's progress is closely monitored to help her quickly identify gaps in their achievements and she is prompt in seeking outside support. The childminder evaluates her setting effectively. She reflects on her teaching to ensure it is of a good standard, and inspires children to play and develop. She maintains a good partnership with parents, enabling them to work well together to support children's care and learning. She involves them in helping to identify and plan improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good teaching skills. She provides an exciting and stimulating environment where children can easily access toys and resources to support their play ideas. They can choose activities indoors or outdoors depending on their preferred learning style. The childminder is careful to support and extend children's learning. For example, she gives one-year-old children sand on a tray to explore with their fingers, then adds a pot and spoon to offer more challenge in their physical skills. She develops children's understanding and vocabulary effectively through her purposeful interaction during play and the routine. She tunes into children's vocalisations, talks to them about what they are doing, repeats key words, and adds further words when replying.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gives children consistent guidance to encourage their good behaviour. She is a very good role model to children and helps them to play happily with others and to understand their feelings. She encourages children to respect people different to them, such as through the use of her play resources and discussion. The childminder meets the personal care needs of younger children well. For example, she uses a hygienic nappy changing routine, and recognises when they are tired and provides sleep facilities. She plans the day so children learn to live a healthy lifestyle. For example, they decide when they are ready for the nutritious snack and take part in daily physical activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show great enjoyment and strong motivation to learn. They settle quickly and are active, focused and engaged in their self-chosen play. They develop a good range of skills that help prepare them for school. One-year-old children who have just mastered walking develop climbing skills by 'having a go' on the play equipment, ably supported by the childminder. They relate happily to unfamiliar people, laugh and try to catch bubbles, point and say 'look' at things which interest them in the colourful environment.
