This provision is good

 Children are exceptionally well cared for. The childminder and her assistant are extremely warm and caring and are very proud of the children in their care.  The environment is highly stimulating with the maximum of consideration given to making it welcoming for children. Resources are extremely well chosen to support children's learning.  Children demonstrate that they feel very much at home. They confidently and independently move around the childminder's home, choosing toys and resources to play with.  The childminder values the views of her assistant, parents and children when evaluating her provision. She welcomes the support and advice from her local authority advisors.  The childminder sees children's safety as a priority. Thorough risk assessments are carried out to ensure the premises are safe. Children are well supervised at all times.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of her good partnerships with parents to maximise their engagement in their child's learning in the setting and at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the strategies used to engage parents in their child's learning in the setting and at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the premises, toys and equipment.  The inspector observed activities and carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents provided in written form.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Both the childminder and her assistant are knowledgeable about child protection procedures and update their training on a frequent basis. Required documentation is in place for the safe and efficient management of the setting. The childminder attends training and liaises with professionals to help her improve her provision. She has an effective working partnership with her assistant and provides support to ensure strong practice is maintained. Parents clearly value the care their children receive and the feedback from them is very positive. They describe the service as, 'Top notch' and award it, 'Ten out ten'.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's quality teaching helps children to make good progress. She uses information from observations and assessments to monitor children's development and identify what they need to learn next. The childminder ensures that children are well occupied during their time with her. Children demonstrate that they are happy and clearly enjoy the activities on offer. For example, they engage well and have fun exploring the real objects in the treasure baskets. The childminder carefully chooses the contents to provide children with the maximum stimulation. The childminder's skilful interactions with children successfully support their communication and language development. She maintains good eye-contact and gives meaning to the variety of sounds they make. She talks to them about what she is doing, so they can link words with actions.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Exemplary, well-considered arrangements mean that children settle quickly into the homely setting. Children form very strong bonds with the adults caring for them. They demonstrate they feel extremely safe and secure in their care. The childminder and her assistant are very calm with the children. They help the youngest children to begin to understand some boundaries. They make sure these are clear and consistent and gently reinforced. They are highly positive role models for children and support them to be kind and considerate to each other. Children behave extremely well and there is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The exceptionally high standards of care and hygiene practices fully promote children's health and well-being. Excellent use is made of the outdoor environment to enable children to benefit from the fresh air and widen their experiences.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing the skills and attitudes to support their move on to nursery and school. They are curious and keen to explore a wide range of interesting experiences. They develop a good awareness of simple technology. For example, they explore interactive toys with curiosity, finding out the sounds that they make when they press the buttons. Children enjoy and join in with familiar songs. They focus well on the childminder as she sings to them and they join in with enthusiasm.
