This provision is good

 The childminder is well organised and professional. She shows a good understanding of her responsibilities and takes effective measures to keep children safe.  The childminder broadens children's experiences through a variety of local visits. For example, they enjoy visits to groups where they learn to socialise with other children and to play cooperatively.  The childminder supports children's learning well. She shows interest in what children are doing and builds on what they can do to teach them new skills. Children make good progress.  Children are very well-behaved because the childminder has high expectations of their behaviour, and provides secure and consistent boundaries. Children learn to take turns and share as they play games.  The childminder evaluates and reflects well on her practice. She makes improvements that have a positive effect for children's learning. For example, the childminder has

extended the range of resources that helps to build on children's learning outdoors.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not use what she knows about each child to plan activities and resources to fully engage and motivate them to learn.  The childminder does not consistently engage all parents in their child's development to help provide a consistent approach to extend children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 plan more effectively and use resources to capture and maintain all children's interests to fully extend their learning  explore additional ways to engage parents more in their child's development to develop a more consistent approach to children's learning between home and the childminding setting.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors, and discussed the effectiveness of some of these with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled documentation, including training certificates, children's learning records, and policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of feedback from parents provided for the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder reviews children's achievements and uses her assessments to track their progress. She makes use of support from the local authority teacher and local childminder network groups, to gain information to update her skills and enhance her teaching practice. The childminder has made improvements since her registration inspection. For example, she has recently improved her understanding of observation and assessment procedures, which has helped her to monitor children's progress more precisely. The childminder knows and understands her safeguarding procedures. She follows them closely to support children's safety. She recognises the signs that may indicate that children's safety is at risk and how to report any concerns to protect their welfare. Safeguarding is effective.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a wide range of activities and play opportunities that cover all areas of children's development. She closely tracks children's progress and narrows any gaps in their learning. The childminder helps children to make good progress in their learning. The childminder encourages children's imaginations and independence. For example, during children's role-play activities she shows them how to use the tools to fix the car in the garage. The childminder helps to develop children's early communication very well. For instance, she continually talks to them, and encourages young children to repeat words and to use them in sentences.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and homely environment, which helps children to settle and feel secure. Children have close relationships with the childminder and develop a sense of emotional well-being. The childminder offers lots of praise and encourages children in all their attempts to help them succeed. She encourages children to be independent and to manage their personal hygiene. The childminder encourages children to develop healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides healthy meals that contribute to their good health and they exercise daily.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make consistently good progress towards the early learning goals, from their starting points. They acquire the knowledge and skills they need to prepare for their future learning and school. Children's have strong communication and language skills. They learn to keep safe, for example, when they play and explore, and they know how to evacuate quickly because they practise the emergency drill.
