This provision is good
The childminder supports the health, safety and security of the children effectively. The childminder and her assistants plan purposeful activities to extend children's learning and development. All children make good progress. Children enjoy a variety of activities that practise and develop their physical skills. For example, they learn to push mobile equipment and competently ride tricycles, while confidently extending their coordination skills. Children are proactive in helping the childminder and her assistants, such as in keeping the setting tidy and safe. Young children show a keen interest in books. They begin to learn how to handle books with care, such as when turning the pages. The childminder actively evaluates her practice to ensure continual improvements in the care and learning opportunities for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to extend fully children's understanding of measurement, including their use of mathematical language. The childminder does not always take into account the views of parents and her assistants fully when deciding areas for further improvement.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times. The inspector observed the childminder and her assistant's interaction with the children. The inspector shared an observation with the childminder and discussed children's learning opportunities. The inspector sampled a selection of documents, including training certificates, staff records, children's assessment records, activity plans and policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has efficient procedures to ensure the assistants are suitable to help look after the children. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child. She ensures the assistants are familiar with the safeguarding procedures to support children's well-being. The childminder regularly carries out risk assessments on all areas of the setting, including play equipment, to reduce the risks of any hazards to children. The childminder seeks regular training opportunities to develop her childcare skills further. She regularly oversees her assistants' practices to ensure that they consistently meet the needs of the children. Overall, the childminder has good partnerships with parents. She shares information with them about their children's experiences and progress, to support learning from home to the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages parents to contribute to an initial assessment of their child when they start at the setting. She uses this information well to gain a good knowledge of children's development and to build on their existing skills. The childminder monitors children's achievements through regular assessments and identifies the next steps to extend children's learning. The childminder helps children to gain important social skills, so they learn to develop relationships with others. Children have lots of opportunities to hear and learn new words, and to develop their communication and language skills. Children have good opportunities to extend their knowledge of the world. For example, they plant flowers and observe their growth, look closely at the movement of mini windmills when they blow, and explore the changes to sand when mixed with water.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle quickly and easily in the setting. They develop a warm and trusting relationship with the childminder and assistants, who are receptive to their needs. The childminder uses appropriate strategies to help children learn what is right from wrong and children respond well. The childminder consistently supports children to develop a healthy lifestyle. For example, children thrive in a clean environment, where they learn to follow good hygiene practices. Children receive nutritious snacks that cater to their diets. The childminder ensures that children receive regular drinking water, especially in warm weather, to prevent them from getting thirsty.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. Children are confident and demonstrate independence skills well. Children are developing important skills for the next stage in their development and in preparation for their move to nursery or school.
