This provision is good
Since her last inspection, the childminder has successfully introduced a more effective system of observation and assessment to monitor children's progress. She uses the information gained to help her successfully target what individual children need to learn next. Children are happy and self-assured in the childminder's home. They confidently choose the toys and activities they wish to play with. The childminder joins in with their play to promote their interest and enjoyment. Children respond well to the childminder's caring and playful manner. The childminder has a good knowledge of the interests and capabilities of the children she cares for. She uses her good knowledge of child development to plan suitably challenging activities to promote children's enthusiasm for learning. The childminder places a high priority on promoting children's language and communication skills. She uses a good range of teaching methods to improve children's
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not established sharply focused plans for professional development to help her promote a higher level of achievement for all children. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to broaden children's understanding of the diversity of the world outside their immediate experience.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as children's records and evidence of the childminder's qualifications and the suitability of household members. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities to protect children and keep them safe from harm. She implements sound policies and procedures to promote children's good health, safety and welfare. The childminder carries out appropriate risk assessments and takes suitable action to keep the children in her care safe and secure. Parents praise the childminder for the important role she has played in their child's development. The childminder takes account of the views of parents and children to help her evaluate her practice and identify areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides good levels of support to encourage children to become active and enthusiastic learners. She is alert to children's interests and offers suggestions and ideas to promote their enjoyment and extend their learning. She talks to children as they play, discussing what they are doing while introducing simple mathematical language. The childminder listens carefully to what children are saying and repeats back the correct pronunciation of words to help develop their speech and vocabulary. The childminder speaks clearly to children, helping them learn to listen and follow instructions. She monitors children's progress to identify and target any emerging gaps in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well and develop strong attachments to the childminder. They enjoy her attention and welcome her interest in their play. The childminder works with parents to help children become happy, sociable and confident individuals. She encourages children to show care and concern for others. For example, she uses children's interest in a first- aid set to show them how to care for a 'poorly' baby doll. The childminder follows good hygiene procedures and promotes children's understanding of the importance of a healthy diet. She uses lots of praise and encouragement and thanks children for being kind and polite. Children enjoy the many play opportunities provided in the childminder's garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in readiness for their future learning, such as going to pre-school or nursery. They develop an enjoyment of books and confidently choose their favourites to share with the childminder. Young children learn to listen and follow instructions, such as to get their drink from the other room. They develop their concentration and hand-to-eye coordination, such as while they sort out their favourite stickers. Young children learn to share and negotiate as they play. They are developing good physical skills for their age, such as learning to ride a scooter.
