This provision is good

 Since the last inspection, the childminder has successfully met the action and recommendations that were raised. This has improved the outcomes for children.  The childminder provides children with a wide variety of interesting resources and activities to promote children's development in all areas of learning. The quality of her interactions and teaching is good, which helps keep children interested and motivated to learn.  The childminder places a strong focus on helping babies and children to acquire communication and language skills and supporting their physical, personal and social development. This helps to ensure they are well equipped with the skills they need for future learning, including school.  Children develop strong relationships with the childminder who is caring and attentive and ensures that their individual needs are met well. Babies and children demonstrate high levels of confidence and emotional security as they independently explore the

environment.  Overall, partnerships with parents are well established and effective. This makes a positive contribution towards meeting children's individual needs and helps ensure consistency and continuity of care and learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently seek detailed information from parents about children's learning and development when they first start at the setting.  The childminder does not always make the very best use of professional development opportunities in order to further develop her already good knowledge and skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend the depth of information sought from parents about children's learning and development when they start at the setting to establish a comprehensive understanding of children's starting points  strengthen and extend existing knowledge and skills to consistently drive the good quality of teaching further and enhance the learning outcomes for children.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector evaluated an adult-led activity with the childminder.  The inspector talked to the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as children's learning records, a sample of policies and procedures and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults living and working on the premises.  The inspector discussed the arrangements for self-evaluation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback obtained by the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, who to contact and what to do in the event of a child protection concern. Furthermore, the childminder is vigilant in ensuring the environment, toys and equipment are rigorously checked for potential hazards on a daily basis. This helps ensure children are protected from harm and they can play and learn in safety. Daily communication and developmental reviews help keep parents fully informed of their children's developmental progress and well-being. The childminder works closely with parents to help them support children's learning at home. Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder regularly reviews her practice and takes account of the views of parents and children when developing targets for future improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a very good knowledge and understanding of the individual learning needs of the children she cares for. She provides babies and children with exciting activities that capture their interest and motivate them to learn. For example, babies laugh and squeal with excitement as they reach out and rapidly crawl towards balls of assorted colours and sizes. This helps to promote their large-muscle skills and coordination well. The childminder models good speaking and listening skills. She uses repeated words and phrases and imitates the sounds that babies make to help develop their understanding of two-way conversation. The childminder successfully monitors observations and assessments and reviews children's development to make sure that they continue to make good progress. She chooses to use a colour-coordinated sticker system which she finds works well for her, helping her to swiftly identify any gaps

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are warmly welcomed into this homely and nurturing environment. The childminder builds positive relationships with children as she successfully supports them through flexible settling-in sessions. Children settle quickly and demonstrate a strong sense of emotional security as they seek out the childminder for comfort and reassurance. The childminder provides clear and consistent boundaries and teaches children the difference between right and wrong. Older children are good role models, kind and caring and develop a mature understanding of the needs of younger children. For example, older children sit with babies and talk and play with them as they wait for their lunch. Children's health is supported well through good hygiene practices, plenty of physical play, fresh air and a varied, nutritious diet.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning, including those whose starting points are below expected levels of development. Some children achieve beyond the expected levels of development for their age. Babies develop a strong sense of curiosity and positive attitudes towards learning. This helps to prepare them well for the next stage of their learning and the eventual move to school.
