This provision is good

 The childminder has made significant progress in the provision she offers since her previous inspection. She has successfully addressed the actions and recommendation raised. The childminder's observations and assessments ensure that all aspects of learning are delivered. She actively seeks and acts upon the views of parents and children to enable her to continuously evaluate her practice.  The friendly childminder establishes strong, warm relationships with children who welcome her sensitive interaction in their play. Children are very happy and demonstrate that they feel comfortable and confident in the childminder's home. They welcome authorised visitors as they arrive and are eager to demonstrate how they are beginning to write their own name.  The experienced childminder takes children to a wide range of organised groups and outings in the community, such as visits to restaurants and shops. children's farm and have fun handling a wide range of animals and learning about their habitats. This helps them to develop a good understanding of the world.  The childminder develops very strong relationships with parents who are highly complimentary of the service she offers. Parents regard the childminder as an extension of their own family and welcome the wealth of advice she consistently provides.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not provide sufficient opportunities for children to make independent choices about what they would like to play with.  The childminder has not been successful in gathering ongoing information about children's progress from other settings they attend. She has not explored further ways to develop this.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder continuously updates her knowledge and skills as part of her professional development. She has an extensive understanding of possible signs that could indicate that children are at risk of harm. She knows how to take swift action in order to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder conducts thorough risk assessments of any outings and all areas of her home. She implements effective measures to ensure that children remain safe at all times. The childminder carefully reviews children's progress to ensure that any gaps in learning are swiftly addressed. She works closely with parents to establish children's starting points in learning when they first begin attending. This helps her to accurately plan to meet their learning needs from an early stage.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children take part in challenging adult-led activities in line with their current interests and needs. They become completely absorbed using their vivid imaginations to make up stories using toy animals, changing their voice for each animal. Children solve complex mathematical problems. They sort a selection of toy screws, wheels and construction equipment and then successfully join them together to make a toy car. Children work out, through trial and error, which screwdriver is the appropriate one to use for each type of screw. They spontaneously use number names and make comparisons in the different lengths of construction equipment. The childminder places a strong emphasis on promoting children's language development. She demonstrates active listening skills and a genuine interest in children's lives. This motivates children to use complex sentences to talk about the experiences they have previously enjoyed and are looking forward to. The

p.3

childminder skilfully introduces children to the meaning of new words, such as indicator and accelerator, in context to their play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well and use good manners without being prompted by the childminder. They follow good hygiene procedures and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. For example, they learn about the importance of applying sun lotion to help protect them from the sun when playing outdoors. Children also engage in discussions with the childminder about where fruit comes from and the importance of a healthy diet. Close supervision from the childminder helps children learn how to assess their own risks during daily visits to the park and on outings. Children understand the reason for standing behind the barrier when feeding the ducks. They have immense fun jumping in puddles and develop physical strength and stamina as they learn to climb large equipment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress in their learning given their starting points. They are active and inquisitive learners that demonstrate a very positive attitude towards learning. This helps them to acquire the key skills they need for future learning and they are well prepared for school. Children are very independent in managing their personal needs in relation to their age.
