This provision is inadequate
Risk assessments are not effective. This results in hazards within the home that pose a danger to children's safety. Teaching is weak. The childminder does not have a good knowledge of how children learn. The activities she provides do not sufficiently interest and challenge children. The childminder does not find out enough about children's abilities and stage of development when they first start. The childminder does not organise resources well enough to enable children to make independent choices in their play.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder responds well to children's emotional needs. Children develop strong attachments with her. The childminder teaches children how to manage their care needs. This helps the children to gain some of the skills to help with their move to school.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaging with children in a range of learning activities. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and engaged with children during the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation, including a selection of policies and procedures and the children's records. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and the suitability of all persons in the household aged over 16 years. The inspector discussed the childminder's improvement plans. The inspector jointly observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. The childminder does not identify all possible risks to children. She has not fully considered the risks associated with the storage of concrete slabs and wooden planks in the garden. In addition, trailing cords from blinds are not made inaccessible to children. This compromises children's safety. However, the childminder has an appropriate knowledge of how to protect children from harm and abuse. She updates her child protection training and is confident on the procedure to follow to share concerns about children's welfare. She attends relevant training and is aware of the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. Since the last inspection, the childminder has begun to use some observations and assessments to track children's progress and inform future planning. The childminder reflects on her provision and identifies some areas for improvement. However, this is not

thorough enough to ensure all requirements are met.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate
Despite the childminder holding a relevant qualification, the quality of teaching is generally poor. Activities planned for children do not fully meet their needs or interests. For example, when children are playing a game of five little ducks they attempt to join in with the activity by reaching out for the ducks. The childminder responds to them by moving their hands away and asking them to sit and watch. As a result, children appear bored and distracted and do not make good enough progress in their development. The childminder completes the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years and shares these with parents. This helps her to identify any gaps in children's learning. The childminder maintains communication with parents. She ensures that parents receive daily feedback about children's routines and daily experiences. However, the childminder does not gather enough information about what children can already do, in order for her to plan

effectively for children's learning needs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Children's safety and welfare are compromised. The childminder does not ensure that her premises are safe and suitable for childcare use. Although the childminder makes regular use of her garden to promote children's physical skills, she has not identified or removed dangers. For example, young children who are practising their newly acquired walking skills are allowed to walk closely to a sharp tree stump. Children are generally well behaved and respond well to boundaries and requests set by the childminder. The childminder promotes some aspects of children's care appropriately. She gives children hugs when they are tired and follows individual routine from home with regards to sleep and meal times. Children appear happy and confident in the care of the childminder. However, the organisation of toys and resources does not always make it easy for children to choose what to play with.
p.3
Outcomes for children are inadequate
Children are not fully safeguarded within the home as there are several dangers in the environment which have an impact on children's safety and well-being. Children are not making enough progress from their starting points. Weaknesses in teaching mean that children are not supported to make good progress in their learning and development.
