This provision is good
Children have good relationships with the childminder, his co-childminder and their assistants. They are confident and settled in their care. The childminder provides safe, welcoming and well-organised indoor and outdoor learning environments for children. He supervises children closely, and checks the home and garden carefully to identify and remove any hazards. Children take part in a wide range of activities and experiences that the childminder plans based on their interests and learning needs. They make good progress in their development from their starting points. Parents are warmly welcomed into the setting; for instance, the childminders invite them to regular social events. The childminder works with parents closely and keeps them well informed about their child's progress and achievements. The childminder is strongly motivated to develop his knowledge and skills. For example, he has achieved early years teacher status since his last inspection.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always work closely with other early years settings that children attend, to help support children's learning and development as consistently as possible. Children do not always have the best possible opportunities to share their own experiences and learn about people's differences in the wider world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder, his co- childminder and their assistant in the playroom and outside in the garden. The inspector had discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about his practice and children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documents, including children's records. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector read questionnaires completed by parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes thorough checks of any assistants to help ensure they are suitable to work with children. He understands how to recognise and report any child protection concerns to support children's safety and well-being. The childminders develop and monitor their assistants' practice effectively, for instance, by meeting for regular reviews. The childminder reflects on his practice and makes changes that have a positive impact on outcomes for children. He makes good use of opportunities to develop his professional knowledge and expertise further. For example, a recent course helped him introduce new challenges for children to help extend their mathematical skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children closely and gets to know them well. He monitors their progress effectively to help him quickly identify any areas where children need more support. The childminder extends children's learning well. For example, when children became engrossed in filling containers with water, he expanded this experience by suggesting they add paint. He encourages children to try things for themselves, persevere and test out their ideas. For instance, he questioned children skilfully as they searched for the correct puzzle pieces, to help them successfully achieve their goal. Children become absorbed in their play and concentrate well. The childminder supports children's language and communication skills effectively. For example, he encourages conversations, listens to children well and gives them time to express their ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder acts as a good role model and offers children gentle guidance and praise. Children behave well and quickly become familiar with the daily routines. The childminder supervises children vigilantly. He helps them gain useful knowledge and skills to help them keep themselves safe. For example, children remember why they need to sit down while they eat. They quickly develop their personal care skills; for instance, they know they need to wash their hands before snack time. Children enjoy playing outside every day and, for example, benefit from easy access to a secure garden area.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children play well together; for instance, they quickly learn to share and take turns. Children communicate confidently and develop good social skills. They become more independent; for example, they help themselves to toys. Children develop good mathematical awareness, such as when they count as they play and solve simple problems. They are eager to join in and motivated to learn. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move to school.
