This provision is good
The childminder has worked closely with her local adviser since the last inspection. She has made changes and improved the ways she plans for and supports children's learning and development. She has also extended her awareness of good practice, which has helped her to evaluate her own work more successfully. Relationships are very close. The nurturing care that the childminder offers and models supports children's confidence well. Children's emotional development is given high priority. This has a strong impact on their relationships and their good behaviour. Children are enthusiastic explorers. The very well planned, exciting playroom wholly engages children in play and activities which support their learning and the good progress they make from their starting points. The childminder works closely with parents and other professionals to share information about children's needs and their learning. This helps her to plan how to
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently use the best possible techniques to help promote rapid development in young children's communication and language, particularly their speaking skills. The childminder does not consistently offer an extensive range of opportunities to help children challenge themselves and gain high levels of confidence in the development of their physical skills, such as climbing and balancing.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities in the playroom and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an observation with the childminder and discussed her evaluation of the learning taking place. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, local authority visit reports, training and evidence of suitability. The inspector took account of the views of parents using the childminder's own records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder's operational procedures are clear. She provides parents with comprehensive information which explains how she safely operates her provision. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder routinely refreshes essential elements of her training, helping her keep abreast of the most up-to-date aspects of child protection. Since the last inspection, she has made good use of opportunities to broaden her knowledge of early years practice and she uses her partnerships with other childminders effectively to share ideas and expertise. The continual improvements she has made have helped to secure good teaching and put in place a more successful provision to support children's progress. This includes more precise monitoring and planning for children's learning. She now has a secure understanding of the early years foundation stage.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with interesting exploratory play opportunities that ignite their curiosity to such an extent that they engage, persist and concentrate well from an early stage. The childminder uses her good knowledge of what interests each child to adapt activities in ways which promote their individual learning. On the day of inspection, the childminder provided a large pipe to enhance a child's play with toy cars. The child investigated how to use the pipe to make the cars travel through it. The childminder successfully introduced opportunities to think about size and associated mathematical language. The childminder makes the most of her vibrant play area to enable children to follow their own interests and think for themselves. She also makes good use of outings to enhance children's experiences and extend opportunities for learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form secure relationships with the childminder, who is very nurturing and responsive to their emotional needs. They freely share warm smiles and affection. Children show how safe they feel as they explore with confidence and investigate with curiosity. The childminder promotes positive independent attitudes and behaviour. Children benefit significantly from her good modelling of how to play, care and learn happily. Calm, consistent routines contribute to children's good behaviour and self-care skills. From an early stage they understand the routines and what is expected of them, such as at mealtimes and snack times. The childminder's good links with other childminders and attendance at other groups are used effectively to support children's social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The consistently good quality of teaching, stimulating environment and excellent relationships all contribute to the good progress children make. Children become confident thinkers who are keen to try things for themselves and have a go. These skills support them in becoming confident, independent learners in readiness for their eventual move on to school.
