p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review and evaluate the programme of supervision and professional development, in order to ensure it is more highly targeted and helps to raise the quality of teaching to an even higher level.  provide children with a wider variety of experiences to help them to reflect and value families and communities beyond their own.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a robust understanding of child protection issues. She knows the procedures to follow if she was worried a child was being abused. The childminder organises safeguarding training to ensure that her assistants understand their role in keeping children safe. The childminder attends training which, overall, has a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning. For example, following training, the childminder uses a range of effective strategies to promote children's language and communication skills. She understands the importance of working in partnership with other professionals and has established close links with them. She liaises with other settings that children attend, in order to share information about children's progress and provide consistency in supporting their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder establishes children's interests and what they can already do from the start. Children enjoy plenty of choice throughout the day. Resources are organised so children can help themselves and plan their own play and learning. For example, children are provided with a range of media and materials to design their own pictures. They choose from the range of tools to make a variety of different shapes and patterns. The childminder promotes children's language well in a variety of ways. For example, she encourages children to talk about their experiences and models appropriate language. The childminder and her assistants introduce children to an interesting range of activities to promote their early mathematical skills. For example, they use numbered blocks to help children's number recognition and provide a range of props for children to count. The childminder uses regular observations to establish the different ways that children learn.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

She plans effectively to promote what children need to learn next. This helps children to develop the skills they need so that they are ready for school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works closely with parents to help ensure that children's care needs and routines are met well. Children are supported effectively to develop strong independence and self-care skills. They are happy, self-assured and self-motivated. Children explore the environment freely and show a strong sense of belonging. They develop a growing understanding of how to use tools and equipment safely and how to take manageable risks. Children have fun playing with vigour and energy, such as outdoors in the fresh air. Children behave well and help carry out tasks, such as tidying up their toys and helping each other. They enjoy the healthy food that the childminder provides for them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and motivated to play and explore. They have an eager disposition towards learning and are prepared well for the next stages in their development and for school. Children are kind and respectful to each other and play cooperatively together. They are confident talkers and keen to celebrate each other's achievements. Children are supported well to make good progress from their starting points.
