and other professionals to ensure that resources and activities continue to challenge children, and extend their learning as much as possible. Children have excellent opportunities to review their work and to understand how they are learning. For example, they use their excellent language skills as they describe the processes they have used in different activities, such as in making pizzas. The childminder's excellent planning and organisation mean that children have frequent opportunities to use local facilities and places of interest that bring their learning to life. For example, they use toddler groups, parks and museums. These activities also help children to develop a meaningful understanding of their community and wider society. The childminder supports parents exceptionally well in extending their children's learning. For example, she uses electronic communication to inform parents of all

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector talked with the childminder and the children present and reviewed an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation and evidence of the suitability of household members. She viewed the childminder's self- evaluation information and a range of other documentation, including the safeguarding procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents, as given in their written feedback to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder aims for the highest standards in her childcare. The meticulous ongoing review of her work supports her in achieving these standards and enables her to accurately identify even further improvements. She has recognised that she can offer children extended opportunities to develop an even greater understanding of letters and sounds through the use of information and communication technology. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder frequently attends training to update her knowledge of this area and works sensitively with children to help them understand how to protect themselves. She works exceptionally well with other childcare settings. For example, she obtains detailed information from them, using this to devise fun activities that continue to support children's learning through the school holidays.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Children make excellent progress because the childminder uses every opportunity to promote their learning. For example, they talk about how much liquid they have poured from a bottle, working out when the bottle is half full and a quarter full. The childminder's innovative activity planning and her enthusiastic interaction ignite children's curiosity and they become totally absorbed in playing and exploring. For example, they develop an excellent understanding of simple chemical reactions, as they work together to lift a hoop and make a large bubble. They are thrilled when they stand inside the hoop, animatedly describing what it is like to be surrounded by a colourful bubble. The childminder observes children and suggests additional resources, encouraging them to determine the use of these. This is one of the ways in which she supports children in determining their own learning. For example, children playing with foam numbers eagerly work out how to use

scoops, sponges and jugs to throw water onto the numbers as they name them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder obtains a wealth of information from parents. She uses this to inform daily routines, ensuring that children's needs are always met. Children's involvement in everyday tasks significantly supports them in developing social skills. They play an active role in daily life and gain an excellent understanding of health and safety. For example, they develop fine physical skills as they chop fruit for snack. They clear away the plates and cups, carefully washing these and competently explaining the most effective method to wash away any germs. The childminder calmly supports children in learning to respect each other and to negotiate and resolve any conflicts. Children's excellent social skills and secure emotional attitudes enable them to adapt confidently to new situations and challenges, helping to prepare them for school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children reflect the childminder's calm, highly positive attitude. They are extremely motivated and make excellent progress, rapidly developing the crucial skills for starting school. Children make exceptional progress in their communication and language skills. For example, they competently express their views and listen attentively, quickly understanding how to follow complex instructions.
