This provision is good

 The childminder has improved her provision since the last inspection. She reviews her work regularly to identify further areas to improve what she provides.  The childminder provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Children are happy and settled. They form strong relationships with adults and with each other and are emotionally secure. Children are cared for well in a safe, secure setting.  The childminder teaches well. She provides children with a broad range of good-quality resources and motivating activities that interests and engages children. They have good opportunities to learn in the secure and inviting outdoor area and make good progress.  Children's language and communication development is particularly strong. The childminder and assistants interact well with children, for example, speaking clearly, introducing new vocabulary, and giving them time to think and respond.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always obtain enough information from parents about what their children learn at home to help her build on their learning with her.  The childminder does not consistently use the information on children's progress to plan even more effectively for children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 gather more information from parents on what their children know and can do at home to help plan more effectively for what they need to learn next  use information on children's progress to help plan activities tailored appropriately to their learning needs.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play and learning indoors and outside.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including safeguarding policies and children's online developmental records.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that she has a secure and confident knowledge of how to identify and refer any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses her knowledge and understanding she has acquired from previous training and working with other childminders to provide positive outcomes for children. Partnerships with parents are good overall. The childminder regularly shares their children's progress and works closely with them to manage children's behaviour in a consistent way. The childminder shares resources and activities to extend children's learning at home. She has improved provision since the last inspection as she reflects on practice and identifies areas for development more closely. For example, she is further developing the outdoor area to extend older children's physical skills and cooperative play opportunities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides children with good-quality learning opportunities. She uses her knowledge of the children's interests to adapt activities and build on their learning. For example, she consistently introduces new vocabulary during play to extend children's learning. The childminder extends this further, for example, during outdoor and indoor play, when children count how many bubbles and learn about big and small. She engages and teaches children well, such as helping them pretend to make cakes. They talk confidently about the colours and things needed, prompting a discussion about eating cakes. The childminder assesses children's progress, although recognises she could use the information she collects to plan better for children's future learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have good opportunities to improve all aspects of their physical development. For example, they practise throwing coloured balls into buckets of a corresponding colour. They chase bubbles and use the tools with modelling dough to make pretend cakes. The childminder helps children to understand their feelings and respect others. For example, children apologise to one another after a squabble. The childminder teaches them how to deal with upset and conflict, to help them develop the confidence to relate to others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. Their language and communication develop well. Children express themselves with confidence and are eager to talk to adults and their friends. Children are confident and independent. For example, they make choices in their play and manage many tasks for themselves. Children behave well and are emotionally ready for the move to school.
