This provision is good
The childminder has made improvements since her last inspection. For example, she now maintains children's attendance records. The quality of teaching is now good. She monitors the quality of teaching of her assistant well and makes good use of training opportunities to improve outcomes for children. The childminder and her assistant support children's communication and language skills effectively. For example, they listen carefully to what children say, use language clearly and encourage dialogue as children play and explore. The childminder and her assistant are caring and affectionate. Children demonstrate secure and trusting relationships with them. Children are curious, confident and are fully engaged in their learning. They make good progress in their learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder and assistant sometimes complete tasks for children that they could manage by themselves. The childminder and her assistant do not make the most of all opportunities to extend children's mathematical understanding.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

improve planning to identify more opportunities for children to manage tasks independently and challenge themselves further provide more opportunities for children to extend their mathematical understanding as they play and explore.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and her assistant at appropriate time during the inspection. The inspector and the childminder observed a planned activity and discussed it together. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including suitability checks, policies and children's records. The inspector took account of parents' written views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Partnerships with parents and other providers are strong and provide continuity in children's learning and development. The childminder keeps parents well informed of their children's progress. The childminder takes positive steps to evaluate the service she provides and values the views of parents. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant attend safeguarding training to ensure that they keep their knowledge up to date. They have a good understanding of how to protect children and understand the procedures to follow if they have concerns about any child's welfare. The childminder ensures her assistant is clear about her responsibilities and encourages her to attend training to develop her skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of children's interests and the next steps in their learning, and help them make good progress. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills well. For example, she engages children skilfully as she shares books with them, asks questions that challenge their thinking and helps them to make links with their own experiences. The childminder plans good opportunities to help children's physical development. For example, she arranges toys to encourage babies to move towards them. The childminder provides activities to encourage children's creative exploration. For example, older children used paint, rollers and sponges, and babies used their hands to explore colour and texture.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant provide children with lots of opportunities to lead their own play and make decisions. For example, children choose materials to use in creative activities and decide when to play outside. The childminder works closely with parents when children first start and has a good understanding of children and their families to help plan for each child's needs. The childminder provides a warm, safe and stimulating environment for the children and supports their emotional well-being well. The childminder and her assistant are good role models and teach children good manners. They manage children's behaviour well and teach them to share and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated to learn. They demonstrate perseverance and, overall, enjoy testing out their ideas. For example, children experimented with different paint effects, testing their ideas and making changes as they explored. Babies settle quickly and explore with confidence. Older children learn a good range of skills that prepare them well for school. For example, they develop early literacy skills, and handle books confidently. All children play cooperatively and respect one another.
