This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a drive to achieve and to improve. They attend training and share good practice with other early years practitioners to develop their skills and knowledge. Since the last inspection, the childminder has successfully developed the quality of teaching and raised the outcomes for children. The childminder and her assistant work particularly well with parents. Information is constantly exchanged to assess, plan and to meet children's care and learning needs well. Parents comment on the homely and supportive learning environment. Children are happy and settle quickly. They particularly benefit from playing with older children who are kind and considerate towards them. Children are motivated to learn and are confident talkers. They use language to engage with others and to share their likes, dislikes and experiences. Children show curiosity and use all of their senses to explore the world around them.
p.1
This provision is good
They particularly enjoy playing outdoors and being creative.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not fully focused on helping older children to think for themselves and to follow their own ideas. The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend the mathematical knowledge of older children in comparing quantities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated planned activities with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults living and working on the premises. The inspector spoke to children and a parent during the inspection. She also took account of the views of parents from their written comments provided by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is vigilant and keeps children safe at all times. She knows the action she must take if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The relationship between the childminder and her assistant is professional and supportive. Effective supervision and coaching are provided to continually develop the assistant's knowledge and skills in teaching. The childminder is a reflective practitioner. As part of her self-evaluation she seeks and responds to the views of children and parents. Children state that they like the activities and playing with their friends at the childminder's home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder knows how to help children to achieve and to make good progress. She plans stimulating activities across all areas of learning which reflect children's interests. Children thoroughly enjoy using their imaginations and exploring different materials. They develop their physical skills as they hunt for dinosaurs hidden in straw. Younger children enjoy exploring sand using all of their senses. Older children watch intently and consider what happens to the sand when it gets wet. The childminder develops children's vocabulary as she constantly introduces new words. Older children confidently use mathematical language for size, shape and for counting. Children show interest in the natural world. They observe the changes made when water, sprinkled onto the floor, evaporates in the sunshine.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop strong attachments to this caring childminder and her assistant. They are helped to embrace the move from home into the childminder's care and then on to pre- school with confidence. Children behave well. They share, take turns, listen and show respect towards others. Children learn to keep themselves safe. They explain that using sun cream when playing outdoors will stop their skin from burning. Constant reminders from adults to drink water in hot weather help to promote children's good health. Children are motivated by the huge range of interesting play resources available. They confidently select and move toys from the indoors to the outdoors. Children have ample opportunities to enjoy fresh air and physical exercise. They explore their local community while participating in a local treasure hunt dressed as pirates.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are prepared well for the next stage in their learning and for school, when the time comes. Their early literacy skills are extended through the rich text displayed in the environment. Children develop their early writing skills as they make marks in paint and sand. They enjoy reading books and concentrate well as they listen to stories. Children are learning to meet their own personal care needs. They use the toilet independently, wash their hands and tell adults when they want to play or to rest.
