This provision is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge of how children learn. She continually assesses and supports their development and provides a varied programme of activities. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children have strong attachments with the warm and caring childminder. She is sensitive to their needs, values their opinions and warmly praises their achievements. This helps to support their emotional well-being. Children behave well. For example, young children show very good manners, they share, and show kindness and consideration to their friends. The childminder has good partnerships with other settings that children also attend. This helps to support a joint approach to supporting children's learning. The childminder regularly evaluates the quality of her provision. She takes into account the views of parents and children to identify areas to improve and raise outcomes for
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make the most of her partnerships with parents to involve them further in their children's learning. The childminder does not always organise play resources to support fully children's decision-making abilities to extend their interests and learning further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
develop further information sharing with parents to encourage them to be more involved in their children's learning review and develop the organisation of resources to extend the opportunities for children to lead their own play and follow their interests.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder, and held discussions with her in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. For example, the childminder completes daily checks of her home to assess any risks to children. She has a good understanding of child protection, including her responsibility to protect children and to maintain their safety. The childminder updates her policies and procedures, which helps her to stay up to date with new guidance and implement this into her practice. She reflects well on her strengths and weaknesses, which helps to identify areas to develop further. For example, she attends training and shares ideas with other childminders to extend her knowledge and skills. This helps to raise outcomes for children. Parents comment positively on all aspects of the childminder's service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly monitors children's progress, which helps to identify any gaps in their learning. She knows children well, and provides activities and experiences which they enjoy. For example, they have fun exploring with sand and resources, and concentrate well as they create their pretend lunch. Children enjoy being imaginative. They transport natural materials and learn to use tools for a purpose. The childminder extends children's communication and language skills well. For example, she models words clearly and maintains an ongoing dialogue with the children. The childminder consistently captures children's interest in the world around them. For example, during the inspection, they listened for sounds in their natural environment and enjoyed looking at books with the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and show that they feel secure in the care of the childminder. For example, they confidently communicate their needs and ask for support during their play. The childminder supports children's good health well. For example, children enjoy regular fresh air and exercise in the parks and other facilities they visit in the local community. The childminder helps children to learn about personal risk and safety. For instance, children have opportunities to use large apparatus at the park and know the procedures to follow in the event of fire. Children have a range of opportunities to learn about differences between themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager to learn. They make particularly good progress in their language and speaking skills and develop a good range of vocabulary. For example, they copy the childminder's words as they play together. Children take part in a variety of activities, for instance, to help further their early writing skills. They gain the key skills they need for the next stage in their learning and school.
