This provision is good
The childminder has addressed weaknesses identified at the last inspection. She continues to reflect regularly on her provision in order to make changes that benefit children. The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment, where children build good relationships with the childminder and each other. Children's communication and mathematical skills are supported well. The childminder's positive interaction and modelling of words helps to support children's developing vocabulary. The childminder has a good understanding of children's individual abilities. She uses this knowledge well to plan for their next stages of development. Children make good progress in their learning. Children play well independently and are becoming active and inquisitive learners.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best of every opportunity to support children's early writing skills as fully as possible. Partnerships with parents are effective overall. However, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to encourage parents to share how they support their children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interaction between the childminder and the children, and reviewed the play equipment and resources. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection, including jointly considering the impact of teaching after viewing activities. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector looked at documentation, including a sample of children's records and assessments. The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates her provision and read comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a positive attitude to the continual development of her provision to help improve outcomes for children. For instance, she developed new outdoor activities to help children to learn about nature. The childminder updates her knowledge and skills regularly. For example, she attended specific training so she could offer tailored support to families. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection issues and her responsibility to support children's safety. The childminder reviews children's progress effectively, which enables her to identify any gaps in their learning. She links with other early years settings children attend, which helps her to provide continuity for children's learning. Parents receive regular information about their children's development, helping to keep them well informed of their children's achievements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans a wide range of stimulating play experiences to support children's overall development. For example, young children enjoy building a tower of bricks and the childminder encourages them to count the number of bricks. She explains that their tower is, 'Getting taller and taller,' to develop children's understanding of size and measurement. Children are self-assured and keen to learn. The childminder encourages them to think, recall and explore their ideas. For instance, children work out what they need to do next when making cakes and show good levels of independence as they mix the ingredients themselves.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and content. The childminder works supportively with families to find out about each child's individual needs and to help them settle. She is skilled and sensitive in helping all children form secure emotional attachments. Children learn to be helpful; for example, they join in tidying away the toys before going outdoors. The childminder talks to children with kindness and teaches them good social skills. For example, she encourages them to say 'please' and 'thank you'. She skilfully adapts activities so children of differing abilities can join in, which helps to keep children interested and engaged. Her regular praise boosts children's self-esteem. The childminder teaches the children ways to keep themselves healthy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. They are confident and show good independence as they choose their play equipment and manage their personal care. They develop positive social skills as they learn to share with their friends. For example, they wait patiently for their turn to shake the dice during the matching game. Children gain essential skills to prepare them for the next stage in their learning and for their move on to school.
