This provision is good

 The childminder manages her setting effectively. She has a confident knowledge and understanding of her role and responsibility to provide good outcomes in children's care and learning.  The childminder effectively monitors children's individual progress from their starting points, to highlight their achievements and close any gaps in their learning.  Children settle in quickly and make good progress in all areas of their development. They show a keen interest and enthusiasm for learning, as they discover new things and develop new skills.  The childminder obtains views from parents and shares ideas with other professionals, which she uses to support the evaluation of her practice and make improvements. This positively impacts on the overall quality of the provision and children's experiences.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make best use of opportunities to extend further young children's interest in exploring their natural surroundings.  The childminder does not use her observations of children fully at times, particularly to closely follow through in planning the next steps in their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 broaden children's range of experiences to enhance their understanding of the natural world  make better use of information gathered from observations of children to strengthen planning processes.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of learning and the childminder's interactions with children as they engaged in activities together.  The childminder engaged in discussions with the childminder about her practice at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's documentation, including children's development records and the childminder's qualification and training certificates.  The inspector took account of parents' views through the written feedback provided.  The inspector and childminder jointly observed children and discussed their progress while they engaged in activities.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of safeguarding issues and a clear understanding of her role, should she have concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. She keeps up to date with good practice. For example, she attends relevant training to build on her knowledge of how young children learn, which she uses well to improve the quality of her interactions with children. The childminder has developed strong partnerships with parents and she works closely with them to provide consistency in children's care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder organises the learning environment effectively. Overall, she plans a range of interesting and challenging experiences across the different areas of learning. For example, children enjoy engaging in role play and have fun exploring different textures while hunting for items in a gooey mixture. The childminder supports children's learning well and engages in their play effectively. She supports their ideas and encourages them to explore new things. The childminder supports children's early language development well. For instance, she continuously engages them in meaningful discussions, and children learn to name objects, repeat words and ask questions.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop strong and healthy attachments with the childminder. They show that they feel comfortable and confident in her care and enjoy being in her company. For example, they approach her for hugs and cuddles of reassurance. The childminder supports them well in developing an awareness of healthy living and safety. For example, she provides regular opportunities for children to engage in outdoor activities, and encourages young children to rest and sleep according to their needs. She offers gentle reminders and reinforces the boundaries while children play. The childminder encourages children's awareness of differences well. For example, she provides a selection of toys and resources, such as those that depict positive images of people from different backgrounds. Furthermore, children attend groups, where they join in various activities, such as cultural and religious events.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and develop key skills in preparation for the next stages in their learning. Young children show increasing confidence in their communication and language skills. For example, they listen to and respond well to the childminder's questions, and verbalise their own needs clearly. Children show good levels of independence, such as at mealtimes. For example, they learn to handle utensils independently to feed themselves.
