This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements to support and extend children's well-being and education. She checks children's progress carefully. The childminder has high expectations of behaviour and leads by example. She develops caring relationships with children, which helps them to thrive. Children in the childminder's care make good progress across all areas of learning. The childminder builds strong supportive relationships with parents. For example, she regularly shares information with them about their children's progress and care needs, such as potty training. The childminder has improved her practice since her last inspection. For example, she has made good use of support from her local authority adviser and has accessed training. She is starting to identify what she needs to do to make further improvements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is beginning to evaluate and improve her provision but does not yet fully include the views of parents and children in this process. Opportunities for young children to access writing materials are not available at times, to develop their early writing skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
develop further systems to collect information from parents and children to help evaluate how to improve the provision further create more opportunities for young children to develop the skills needed for early writing.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children during activities. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including children's records and a range of policies. The inspector spoke to children at various times during the inspection to assess their understanding of activities. The inspector discussed policies and procedures, assessment methods and planning with the childminder. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and observed the quality of care, teaching and children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role to safeguard and protect children to ensure they are safe. She knows how to record and report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder tracks children effectively to monitor their progress and ensure that they receive the support they need. She has developed strong partnerships with parents to support a consistent approach to meeting children's needs. The childminder accesses training and support, which helps her to develop her provision. For example, she exchanges activity ideas with other childminders to introduce a rich source of exciting new activities for children in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts enthusiastically with children and follows their interests in play. For example, when children showed an interest in miniature toy figures, she joined in with their play, giving names and describing the characters of each one. She skilfully extends children's awareness of equality and diversity. For example, she talks to children about why one figure is using a walking stick. The childminder makes accurate observations of children's skills, knowledge and understanding. She uses these observations to help plan stimulating activities to support children's physical, social and language development. For example, during the inspection, children looked at mirrors, while drawing their faces directly onto the mirror surface. The childminder questioned them about the similarities and differences of their faces and used the opportunity to talk about the senses. Furthermore, she delicately covered children's ears and discussed what it would be like not
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder treats children with genuine warmth and gives them lots of praise and attention. Children learn to socialise and become confident with other children and adults. They develop their physical skills effectively and enjoy being outside. For example, the childminder regularly takes them to the park and groups at the local children's centre. The childminder consistently helps children to develop their health, and physical and emotional well-being. Children develop their independent skills well, such as when choosing resources and managing their toileting needs. The childminder models high expectations of behaviour, for example, teaching children to treat resources and others with respect.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in all areas of learning, given what they know when they start. They gain the necessary skills to support their future learning well. For example, children develop self-confidence, self-esteem and physical skills. They talk confidently about previous experiences and take care of one another during their play.
